To fdl whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON M. BAGBY, a citizen of the United. States, and a resident of the city and county of Denver, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window Locks and Lifter-s, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which the invention appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in means for locking windows in closed positions and for raising the same after the lock has been released.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective device of the class mentioned, which will accomplish the combined purpose of locking the window and of raising the window after the lock has been released.
Another object of the invention is to provide an extremely simple and efiicient device, which is at the same time practical in use and operation.
With these and other objects in view, I will describe the invention in detail with reference to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof.
1n this drawing, Figure 1 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2; and F ig. 2 is an elevation view showing the application of the device to thewindow.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
Let the numeral 5 designate the lower portion of the window frame and the numeral 6 the base of the window casing.
The combined window lock and lifter comprises a hook part 7 and an interlocking member 8, the hook part 7 being secured to the window frame 6, while the interlocking part 8 is secured to the base of the window casing 6. The hook part 7 consists of a housing 9, secured to the window frame 6 by means of a fastening device 10. The opposite extremities of the housing 9 are provided with angle members 12 and 13, through which the fastening devices 10 are passed, the said angle members 12 and 13 also forming supports for a fulcrum pin 14, the extremities of which are journaled in said angle members 12 and 13 and retained therein by flanges 15 formed on the extremities of said pin. The housing 7 is cut out of a single piece of material and bent into shape to form the housing and the angle members 12 and 13. The outer side of the housing is provided with vertically disposed integrally formed wings 16 and 17, which extend in opposite directions beyond the housing, the outer extremities of these wings being curved inwardly, as shown at 18 to kprevent window curtains, or shades from hanging on same and to prevent injury to the hands of the operator in manipulating the device. The fulcrum pin 14 is arranged within the housing 9 lengthwise thereof and disposed in a horizontal position. A locking member 20, which occupies a vertical position, is extended through the housing 9, the locking member 20 being provided with a yoke 21 intermediate its extremities, in which the fulcrum pin 14 is received. rIhe portion of the locking member 20 intermediate the yoke 21 is cut out, as shown at 22, for the reception of a spiral spring 23, which surrounds the fulcrum pin 11. One extremity of this spiral spring 23 engages the outer side of the housing 9,- as shown at 24, while the other extremity thereof engages the locking member 20, as shown vat 25, both extremities of said spring being extended inwardly toward the center of the said locking member. The opposite extremities of the spiral spring 23 acting in opposite directions normally maintains the locking member 2O in the position represented by full lines in Fig. 1, and in looking relation with the member 8. The central portion of the locking member 20 is widened, while the o-pposite extremities thereof are gradually tapered from said central portion, the lower extremity thereof being curved to form a hook 27, which is adapted to interlock with a hook 28 formed by the forward edge of the member 8. The lower extremity of the locking member 20 extends below the wing 16 of the housing 9, whereby the hook 27 thereof is exposed for interlocking with the hook 28 of the member 8. The upper extremity of the locking member extends above the wing 17 of the housing 9 and is curved outwardly as shown at 29 to form a segment of circle for the reception of the finger of the operator. By pulling outwardly on the upper extremity of the locking member 20, the latter is actuated on the fulcrum pin 14 to disengage the hook from the hook 28, and then by pulling in a vertical direction on the member 20, the

window may be raised. The spring 23 actuates the hook 27 into locking relation with the hook 28 when the window islowered.
The member 8 is secured tothe base of the window'y casing by means of a `fastening device 30, which is anchored into said base. The member 8 occupies a horizontal position at right angles to the locking member 20, and the hook 28 is formed by bending the forward edge thereof so that a portion of the latter is raised above the said base 6, leaving a space under the forward edge of said member 8 in which the hook 27 is received.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A Y window locking and raising device, comprising an integrally formed housing secured to the window frame, the upper and lower sides of said housing being open, a
fulcrum pin horizontally disposed in said housing, a vertically disposed locking member extending through said housing, said locking member having a yoke intermediate its extremities in which said fulcrum pin is received, an interlocking member on the window casing, the lower extremity of said locking member having a hook thereon adapted to engage with the said interlocking member for locking the window in closed position, the upper extremity of said locking member being curved to form a part adapted to be engaged by the finger of the operator for actuating the locking member out of locking relation with said interlocking member and for raising the said window, and the vside of said housing having a depending wing extending` longitudinally with said locking member and engageable by the lower part of said locking member for sustaining said lockingmember in position to be engaged by the interlocking part.
