UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERTKEMPER, OF FOSTER, KENTUCKY.
SASH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 840,325, dated April 20, 1886.
Application filed OCtObtl' T, 1885.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT KEMPER, of Foster, in the county of Bracken and State of Kentucky, have inventeda new and Improved Sash-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for securely locking sashes, and preventing raising the sash from the outside, and for holding the sash at any desired elevation.
The invention consists in the special construction of the fastener, as will be fully described and set forth hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved sash-fastener, showing the manner in which it is applied. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
The fastening-lever A is pivoted to the 25 jalnlo B of the window-frame, and is provided at its upper and lower ends with the curved prongs or lugs O. From the lower lug C a pin, D, projects and another pin, E, projects Serial No. 179,215. (No model.)
from the lever A, a short distance above the lower end of the same. A brace-lever, G, is pivoted to the side of the lever A at its lower end, and said brace-lever is provided with a laterally-projecting handle-lug, H.
The operation is as follows: When the lower sash, J, is lowered, and is to be 1ocked, the upper lug G is swung on the top rail of said sash, and the lever G is rested against the front of the said sash J to prevent forcing the top lug C from the top rail of the sash. When the lower sash is raised, and is to be held in the raised position, the lever G is swung back, and the lower lug O is swung n11- der the bottom rail of the said sash and supports it. The pins D and E prevent the lever-G from swinging down or back too far.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secn re by Letters Patent- The combination, with the lever A, having the lugs O at the top and bottom ends, of the bracelever G, pivoted on the same, substantiall y as herein shown and described.
ROBERT KEM PER.
