WATER-BAG fiTOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 11917.
Application filed 0ctober14, 1916. Serial No. 125,565.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD V. BRUMLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plandome, county of Nassau, State of New York, have invented new and useful Inr provements in VVater- Bag Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates essentially to devices for connecting a stopper to a water bag or other receptacle, so that when the stopper is removed from the orifice or mouth of the bag, it can not be misplaced or get lost.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple connection between the stopper and a flexible handle of the bag which does not interfere wit-h the manipulation of the stopper.
The invention is designed to practically obviate any crevices between the connections for the lodgment of dirt or other objectionable matter. All the parts or sections of the device are readily accessible so that they can be easily cleaned to keep them in a hygienic condition.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1, represents a sectionalside elevation showing the stopper screwed into the mouth of the bag.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation showing the stopper unscrewed from the mouth of the bag".
l ig. 3, is a perspective view of the con nection before it is fastened to the stopper and bag. In this drawing the letter a designates the body of a water bag having a screw threaded orifice or mouth 6 and a funnel shaped top 0 projecting from the body of the bag. A strap handle (Z extends upwardly from the funnel and is adapted for carrying or suspending the bag from a hook or other device. A screw threaded stopper 6 is made to coaot with the threaded orifice and thus close the mouth of the bag. The stopper is provided with a thumb member f to serve as a handle for operating the stopper when inserting or removlng from the mouth.
The connecting device between the stopper and the handle of the bag comprehends an annular base member gwhich' is adapted.
to loosely encircle the lower portion of the thumb member of the stopper. The diameter of the ring 9 is smaller than the perimeter of the thumb member so that the ring cannot move over the top of the member, thus confining it within certain limits on the top of the stopper. The stopper can be freely rotated within the ring and it has play room to move up and down or at right angles to the axis of said ring. The ring is provided with an upwardly extending stem It, the upper end ofwhich has an eye 2' forming an integral part of the stem.
A ring 7' is linked or connected to the eye and embraces a strap of the handle of the bag. The ring can slide freely up or down along the strap as indicated in Fig. 2, and oscillate about the strap.
It will be seen that when the stopper is unscrewed from the mouth, the ring y will travel up around the loop to the rear branch of the strap and the stopper will be swing ingly suspended from the connection it to a position at the rear portion of the bag.
The connection between the stopper and the ring 7' is formed of a single length of comparatively stifi wire, and the annular end 9 as shown is bent at right angles relative to the stem 72. so that it will lie flat and centrally on the head of the stopper. iVhen unscrewing the stopper, the ring 9 will move upwardly with the stopper and the ring i will swing upward or slide along the strap.
I claim:
1. In a water bag the combination with a handle and a stopper having a thumb member, of an inflexible connection provided with an annular member at one end to loosely encircle the thumb member, and having an eye at its other end, and means linked to the eye for connection with the handle.
2. In a water bag the combination with a flexible handle and a stopper having a thumb member, of an inflexible connection formed of wire having an integral annular base member at one end to loosely encircle the thumb member, and having an eye at its other end, and means linked to the eye for embracing the handle.
3. In a water bag the combination with a flexible handle and a stopper having a thumb member, of an inflexible connection formed of a wire having an integral annular base member at one end to loosely en circle the thumb member, and having an eye at its other end, and a ring connected to the eye for slidingly embracing the handle.
4. In a water bag the combination with a 5 flexible handle and a stopper having a thumb member, of an inflexible connection formed of a single length of wire including an upwardly extending stem with an annular base member bent at right angles to the 10 stem to loosely encircle the thumb member,
the stemhaving an eye at its upper end, and a ring connected to the eye for slidingly embracing the handle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscrib- 15 ing witnesses.
HOWARD V. BRUMLEY.
