Description
ROBERT A. JOHNSON, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
INSECT-GUARD.
Application led December 2, 1916.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ROBERT A. JOHNSON, a citizen Of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the county of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insect-Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved insect guard, especially adapted for use in hanging lunches or the like and protecting the same from ants and other insects, the obj ect of the invention being to provide an iinproved device of this character which is simple in construction, which can be readily carried in the pocket and which can be arranged for use in an instant.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure l is an elevation of an insect guard especially adapted for use as a lunch hanger and constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention and showing the closure in closed position.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View of the same as arranged for use and with the closure removed from the container.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide a container l which is here shown as cylindrical in form, as open at the upper end and as provided at the upper end with screw threads 2. The container is adapted to hold oil or cotton waste or the like saturated with oil, vaseline, or other substance obnoxious to insects. The container is provided at the bottom with a centrally arranged attaching device 3 which is here shown as an eye and to which a luncheon or any package, article or fruit, food or the like may be attached by means of a coil. In the container is a centrally arranged inverted U-shaped guide 4: which is secured to the bottom of the container and is provided with a central guide opening 5 at the upper end.
A closure 6 is provided for the upper end of the container and which is here shown Specification of Letters Patent.

as a cap which is adapted to be screwed on the threaded upper end of the container. A wire rod 7 is rigidly secured to and extends through the center of the cap and also extends downwardly into the container and through the guide opening 5 and has a stop S at its lower end. Said wire rod is provided with an attaching device 9 at its upA per end which is here shown as an eye which may be engaged by a string and used for suspending the device from any suitable elevated object. The length of the rod 7 is such as to enable the closure cap to be screwed to the upper end of the container to close the latter when it is desired to carry the device in a pocket or the like and when the device is not in use. IVhei the device is in use and the cap unscrewed from the container the rod T enables the cap to be held at a distance above the upper end of the container, the stop 8 engaging under the upper end of the guide standard 1l, as shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described a container having an attaching device in the lower end, a closure for the upper end of the container and removable therefrom, said closure also having an attaching device, and connecting elements between the container and the closure adapting the container to be suspended from the closure when the latter is in open position.
2. In a device of the class described a container having an attaching device at the lower end and the said container being Open at the upper end, a closure for the upper end of the container, adapted to be detachably secured thereto, said closure also having an attaching device, a guide standard arranged in the container and extending upwardly from the bottom thereof and a rod secured to the closure and slidably engaged with said guide standard.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
ROBERT A. JOHNSON.
