FLY-KILLING- DEVICE.
Application filed June 14;, 1912.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE P. CHIL- nnnss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schuyler, in the county of Colfax and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fly-Killing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of fly killing devices and the objects of my improvement are, first to provide a device of this nature which consists of but a few parts whereby it may be easily manufactured; second, one which can be easily transported from place to place when occasion requires; and third, one wherein the feed wicks are disposed in such a manner and constructed in such a way as to prevent their being readily displaced from the receptacle and thereby allowing the contents to escape.
lVith the above and other objects in view, my invention relates to such details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of the several parts as will be here inafter fully described and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout theseveral views and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred form of my invention, numeral 1 designates a relatively flat body portion thereof which has disposed, centrally thereof, an elongated upstanding reservoir 2, the said reservoir being provided near its lower end with openings 3 whereby the contents of the same is allowed to feed into the body portion. A cap 4- is provided in the reservoir, which cap has screw threaded engagement therewith and facilitates the filling thereof. Transversely and longitudinally extending elongated slots are formed in the upper side of the flat body portion Specification of Letters Patent.

which are adapted to receive wicks 5, the said elongated wicks being enlarged at their upper and lower long sides whereby their displacementfrom the slots is obviated to a certain extent.
The reservoir is adapted to contain a poisonous fluid and it is readily obvious that the fluid will flow through the openings 3 and be absorbed by the wicks 5. As the fluid evaporates from the wicks, the balance contained in the reservoir will be automatically fed and by this action the wicks will be continuously kept soaked. When the flies partake of this poisonous fluid from the wicks, they will be killed as will be apparent.
The body portion, having the upstanding elongated reservoir, may be readily transported from one place to another by. grasping the said reservoir; the reservoir being centrally disposed with respect to the relatively flat body portion produces a clear and free approach to the wicks 5 from all sides; and, by the provision of elongated wicks it will be appreciated that a fly will walk along the wick gradually partaking of poisonous fluid and obtaining a suflicient amount to produce a deadly effect upon it.
I claim 2- A fly killing device comprising a substantially flat hollow space having upper and lower walls and the upper wall having a plurality of long narrow wick-receiving slots disposed in widely spaced relation with respect to each other, strip-like wicks in said slots, and a handle reservoir having side walls extending through the upper wall of said base in widely spaced relation with respect to said wicks and downwardly into on gagement with the bottom wall of said base and having orifices disposed between the upper and lower walls of said base for supplying the latter with poisonous liquid, and said handle reservoir having a filling cap, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
