tudinally sliding bar 17 is mounted and guided on the follower 16 and is prov ded with a longitudinal slot 18 through which a binding screw 19 passes, and serves for locking the sliding bar in place on the follower, at any adjustment required on the sliding bar. A set of notched jaws 20 are secured on the free end of the sliding bar 17 and are adapted to receive between them the head 12 and to engage the cross pin 13.
The garments are hung on coat hangers of conventional shape, as for example shown at 21, and provided with hooks 22. The garl ments are hung in conventional manner, on the hangers 21 and placed in the trunk, the hooks 22 engaging the bar 5 and the follower 16 is placed upon the uppermost garments, the trunk being on end. The rod or bar 9 is swung into position so that its head 12 and cross pin 13 rest in the socket 15 as shown in Fig. 2. The rod or tube 9 is made of such. length that when its head 1.2 is forced into the socket 15 the upper end of the tube 5 is moved slightly toward the inner surface of the end wall 11 so as to bind the hooks 22 beview of the same, the parts being folded. j tween said tube 5 and the inner surface of Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of one end the end wall 11. After closing the lid or part of the trunk, showing details. cover the trunk is now ready for shipment.
When the garments are to be displayed,
The trunk proper is constructed with a body 1, and lid 2 of any style, shape or mate the trunk is placed on end, as shown in Fig. 2, and the follower is removed, the sliding rial in the conventional manner. A screw bar 17 1s moved upward asfar as necessary socket or floor late 3 is secured to the upper surface of the cor i of the trunk body 1, at and then locked in place by means of the binding screw 19. Be it known that I, ANDREW I-I. TEEPLE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rutherford, in the county of Bergen and State of NewJersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample- Trunks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sample trunks, and particularly to that class of sample trunks which are used for contain ing and displaying garments. l
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved trunk of this kind which is simple in construction, composed of few parts, is strong and durable, not apt to get out of order, and in which the garment can be quickly packed conveniently on hangers and when desired can be displayed to great advantage.
In the accompanying drawings in which of my improved sample trunk, opened up for display purposes. ig. 2 is a perspective loosely surrounding the upper edge of said tube and secured to the trunk body, a rod tube and secured to the trunk body, a rod pivoted to the outer end of said tube, a socket l on that Wall of the trunk opposite the one at Which the said rod is hinged and adapted to receive the free end of said rod, a follower and means on the same for engaging the free end of said rod, substantially as set forth.
2. In a sample trunk, the combination With a trunk body, of a tube secured therein 1 to the floor and extending along one Wall to the upper edge of the trunk body, a yoke 5 loosely surrounding the upper end of said pivoted to the outer end of said tube, a socket on that Wall of the trunk opposite the one at which the said rod is hinged and adapted to receive the free end of said rod, a follower, an adjustable bar on said follower, means for locking said bar in place and means on said bar for engaging the free end of said rod, substantially as set forth.
