Be it known that I, ROBERT DAUGHIRTAI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Schenectady, in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Bottle Holder and Protector, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a combined bottle holder and protector, and is designed for pro- Viding convenient means for suspending a nursing-bottle within reach of a child and at the same time form a protector which will effectually safeguard the bottle against breakage. These results are accomplished by the means and inthe manner hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims following the description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation, partially in section, illustrating the manner of supporting the bottle; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the bottle-holder and protector.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates anursing-bottle of any suitable, ordinary, or preferred construction, and 2 a reticulated wire support and protector therefor, comprising a contractile neck 3 at one end and a ring or annulus 4 at its opposite end, the neck 3 and the butt4 being connected by longitudinal wires 5 and transverse annular wires 6.

The protector is preferably formed from wire, as follows: Commencing at the point such as 7 for example, the end of the wire is bent to form a loop 8 and is thence bent in the form of a semicircle to a point 9, and from the latter point it is bent longitudinally to embrace one side of the bottle, the longitudinal turn of the wire being suitably curved to correspond to the curvature of the bottle. At one extremity said longitudinal portion is bent to form a loop 10 and is then bent to form a ring 11, which passes through the loop 10, and at a point on the opposite side of said ring is bent to form a loop 12, which loosely encircles the ring 11, and the wire is then bent longitudinally to embrace the opposite side of the loottransversely around the longitudinal wires and are twisted about the latter, as indicated at 14. A reticulated wire casing is thus formed, through the butt-end of which may be inserted the nursing-bottle, the neck of the bottle passing through the contractile ring 3, which being constructed in the manner de scribed, automatically adjusts itself about the neck of the nursing-bottle. The buttend of the protector or holder is open, as

shown, so as to form a convenient means for the insertion of the bottle. To the butt-ring 4 is secured a hinged latch 15, comprising a wire bent intermediate its ends to form a latch 16, the two portions of the wire being thereafter bent and crossed at their extremities and loosely twisted around the ring 4, as indicated at 17. The latch thus constructed forms a hinged closure for the butt-end of the protector and is locked in place, as will hereinafter appear. One of the longitudinal wires 5 is twisted around one of the transverse wires 6, as indicated at 18, and at its other end is twisted about the butt-ring 4, said wire intermediate its length being twisted upon itself to form an eye 19 by means of which the holder may be suspended from a rod 25 or other suitable support, and this support may be connected to a baby-carriage or elsewhere, as may be desired, by means of a clamp 22 of any suitable construction. The end of the wire attached to the butt-ring 4 is bent upon itself and is thence bent upwardly and outwardly to form a catch 20, which is adapted to be engaged by the loop 16 on the latch hereinbefore referred to.

In practice the butt-end of the protector is opened by unhinging the latch from the hook and swinging said latch away from the butt-end of the protector, after which a nursing-bottle may be readily inserted in the holder through the open butt-end and the contractile ring 3 will automatically adjust itself to the neck of the bottle. The butt-end of the holder is then closed by swinging the latch 15 into position to cause the loop 16 to spring over the hook or catch 20, the resiliency of the wire operating to hold the latch and hook in engagement with one another. The protector and its inclosed bottle may now be swung or suspended by means of the eye 19 from any suitable support.

The reticulated protector constructed in the manner before described forms not only a convenient support for the bottle, but also a protector for the same, which forms an effectual safeguard against the breakage of the bottle. Furthermore, the contractile ring or annulus automatically accommodates itself to the neck of the bottle and firmly holds the latter in place, while the hinged latch on the butt'end of the holder when locked in place effectually prevents the bottle from being accidentally removed or displaced from the holder. The longitudinal and transverse wires twisted together in the manner described form a stili' rigid casing which completely encircles the bottle and forms a protected casing of suflicient rigidity to resist all ordinary shocks and other accidents that such bottles are liable to.

Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. In a combined bottle support and protector comprising a reticulated wire casing having a contractile ring at one end arranged to embrace the neck of the bottle and an open ring at its other end for the insertion of the bottle, longitudinal wires connecting together said rings, transverse wires passing around and intertwisted with said longitudinal wires, and a pivoted latch on the ring at the butt-end of the device for locking the bottle in place, substantially as described.

A combined bottle support and protector comprising agreticulated wire casing having a ring at one end for encircling the neck of the bottle, an open ring at the other end for permitting the insertion of the bottle, longitudinal wires connecting said rings, transverse wires intertwisted With the longitudinal wires, a hinged latch comprising a wire bent intermediate its ends to form a loop and loosely twisted at its ends about one side of the ring at the butt-end of the device, one of said vertical wires being arched outwardly to form a bail and bent at one end to form a hook arranged to be engaged by the loop on the swinging latch, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. A combined bottle support and protector comprising a reticulated wire casing having a ring at one end for encircling the neck of the bottle, an open ring at the other end for the insertion of the bottle, longitudinal and transverse wires intertwisted together, the longitudinal wires being connected to the rings, a hinged latch consisting of a wire bent intermediate its ends to form a loop and loosely twisted at its extremities about one side of the ring at the butt-end of the device, one of said longitudinal wires being arched upwardly to form a bail and bent at its lower end to form a hook arranged to be engaged by the loop, substantially for the purpose specified.

4. A combined bottle support and protector comprising a reticulated wire casing having a contractile ring at one end for encircling the neck of the bottle and at its other bent into annular shape to form a ring at the butt-end of the device, longitudinal wires connecting said rings, transverse wires encircling the longitudinal wires and intertwisted therewith, a hinged latch for closing the butt-end of the casing, and a bail attached to and forming a support for said casing, substantially as described.
