L. WOLF.
HAND BAG.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-4,19%.
Patented Apr. 24, 1917.
WITNESSES of the United States,
LOUIS WQLE'QF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HAND-BAG.
meanes To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Louis WoLr, a citizen and a resident of New York, in the county of New York-and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Bags, of
. other covering is outermost.
' which the following is a specification.-
- bag adapted for and. the other. on the inside,
7 the positions of Fig. 3.
My invention relates to ladies hand bags, and the main object thereof "is to provide a different occasions or for difierent dresses by making the bag reversible to present either of two outer coverings which may be of different colors, of difieren't designs, and of difierent materials.
I accomplish this result without interfering in the least with the normal use-of the hand bag andwith practically of'the conventional appearance, and the lining of the bag, with'its pockets, is the same with either cover.
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accomre characters refer to like parts in each of theviews, and in which 3- v Figure '1 represents a view of the top of the hand bag; I
Fig. 2 is asection taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 with one covering on the; outside the bag being closed with respect to its normal receptacle but shown in a preliminary stage of reversing the covers";
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but show- I ing one frame member swung through an arc of approximately 350 degrees of a'circle in close to the final stage of reversing the covers, the cover shown in Fig. 2 beingnow out of sight and the cover out of sight in Fig. 2 now being-outermost;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary end view of the bag in-a position similar to'Fig. 2, showing the frame members; and
Fig. 5 is a similar view with the parts in Referring to the drawings, 6 and 7 represent the two frame members in pivotalcon nection at 8 carrying the lining 9 and adapted to be locked together by means of a snap 10 of any desired type, the former having one side of a covering 11 secured thereto at 12 and the latter being provided with a handle of suitable design.
Carried by each pivot 8, at the bag ends, is a link 13 in pivotal connection with the respective end of a supplemental frame.
Specification of Letters Patent.

member 14 and to which the other side of the covering '11 is secured at 15, said frame member 14 having a hole 16 therethrough adapted to snap over a post 17 on the frame member 7 when the covering 11 is outermost and over a-pos t 18 on the member 6when the The supplemental covering 19 is secured at one side to the frame member 7 at 20 and at its other side tothe supplemental frame member 14 at 21 and, in the position of the parts shown in Fig. 2, rests-withina pocket 22 formed between the covering 11 and the lining 9.
When it is desired to reverse the coverings, all that is necessary is to disengage the supplemental frame memberltfrom the post 1 and swing said member onits pivot through substantially a complete circle and engage the same with the post 18 in practically the.positions of the parts shown in Fig. 3, this tending to bring the covering 19 outermost and roviding a pocket .23 between the lining 9 and the supplemental covering '19, and it will be noted that the pocket 24 formed by the lining 9 has not been opened in this operation.
It will also be noted that the'handle has not been aifected by the reversal nor-have the contents of the bag been disturbed in the least, and the covering not inzuse is thoroughly protected at all times, this double covering latter, and it will be noted further that thepivoted links 13 enable the frame members to be manipulated to 'efiect' the reversal.
.My invention is very simple while possessing the advantages noted, and the additional cost of a bag constructed in accordance with this invention is relatively slight, being only the supplemental frame member 14, the links 13, and the supplemental covering material, and, as will be understood, the design of the bag in either of its presentations is subject to individual taste and to the dictates of fashion and of utility. Havin fully described my invention, what. I c aim as new, and desire to;secure by Letters Patent, is 1 1. A handbag,(wnsisting of a fr'ame, a lining forming a pocket, a cover, asup lemental cover, and means'for bringing elt er of. said covers into covering position.
pocket, a cover, a supplemental coven-and'means for bringing of the bag doublingthe life of the a 2. A hand bag, consisting of a? frame, a
either of said covers into covering position covering position without disturbing the contents of said pocket or said handle.
4. A hand bag, comprising two frame members in pivotal connection, a lining carried by said members and forming a pocket, a supplemental frame member in pivotal connection with said first named frame members, a cover secured at one side to said supplemental frame member and at its other side to one of said first named frame members, a cover secured at one side to said supplemental frame member and at its other side to the other of said first namedframe members, and means for locking said supplemental frame member to either of said first namedlframe members.
5. A hand bag, comprising two frame members in pivotal connection at each end.
'named frame members, a cover secured at one side to said supplemental frame member and at its other side to the other of said first named frame members, one of said covers being folded between said lining and the other of said covers and adapted to be opened to inclose said last named cover and said lining by swinging .said supplemental frame member on its pivots, and means for securing frame member to either of said first named frame members.
