PATENT QFFIGE.
CHARLES F. LANGFORD, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR SUPPORTING DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,178, dated December 26, 1871.
I, CHARLES F. LANGFORD, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Device for Supporting Drawers and other undergarments, of which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object to furnish a convenient fastening by which drawers, stockin gs, and like garments may be readily connected with the suspenders, shoulder-straps, or waist, so that their weight will be supported by the shoulders and the other part of the person relieved therefrom, which device shall be adjustable as to length, and adapted to connect with button-holes, rings, or the suspender-buokles; and it consists in the combination of a sliding link and frame with a hook so formed as to receive a button andalso connect with a button-hole, ring, or buckle. It further consists of a strap, forming, in connection with said device, an adjustable supporter for the purpose named.
Figure l is a perspective view of the fastening. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same with the strap attached. Fig. 3 is a side view of the strap with the fastening in vertical section. Fig. 4 is a view of the strap detached.
As represented in the drawings, A is a rectangular frame, which may be formed of wire, as shown, or stamped from sheet metal. B is an arched button-receiving portion immediately above A, which may be of any convenient shape, having sufiicient width of opening to allow the button to pass readily through, but being contracted at the top so as to closely embrace the eye, and terminating in the hook O. A. link, d, is arranged to slide over the part; A. The lower bar of the latter is preferably covered by a friction-sleeve e. The strap F is provided with a hole at its lower extremity for buttoning to the drawers or other garment. Its free end is passed through the link d and frame A from below, and back between the link and lower bar of the frame, when the weight of the garment which it supports draws the link close to the bar and compresses the double thickness of the strap so firmly as .to prevent it sliding or being drawn through. When it is desired to adjust the position of .the fastening it is readily accomplished by drawing on the free end of the strap. When the supporter is to be attached to a button it is done by passing the button through the part B, when the upper edge of the button rests in the bend of the hook O, by which the strain and wear is to a great extent removed from the eye or sewing of the button, and the latter is also prevented from tipping or inclining downward from the weight which it supports. When it is to be attached to a button-hole, 100p, ring, or buckle, the hook only is employed.
This device is therefore adapted to use in connection with most under garments ordinarily worn by adults and children;
I claim as my invention- 1. A button-loop and hook combined, consisting of the parts A, B, and G,'substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The improved device for supporting drawers and other garments, consisting of the frame A, socket B, hook 0, link d, and strap F, arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing wit.
Witnesses: WM. F. MGNAMARA,
K. NEWELL JONES.
