IMPROVEMENT IN SUPPORTING-BUSKS FORCORSET-FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,152, dated December 26, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MELLissA E. BULKLEY, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Im proved Supporting-Bush for Gorset-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to a new device for conveniently attaching busks to corsets to support the fastening by which the two parts are united and protect the body of the wearer from injury when a steel breaks; and consists in attaching three pieces of metal to the busk, as hereinafter fully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure l is a front view of a corset with the bush applied thereto by means of my attachment. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through dotted line w showing` a transverse View of one end piece. Fig. 3 is a cross-section through y y, showing a transverse view of the middle piece.
A represents that part of the corset which has the steel with stud-pins E thereon. On these pins the eyes fasten in the usual manner of hooks and eyes. H is the ordinary busk. I I are sliding plates, and K a stationary plate. Each of the former is made of a single piece of sheet metal with its two ends bent over toward each other and one of them bent back and transversely slotted, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 oi' drawing. Y The piece K is constructed in the same form as the pieces I I, except that the slot of they former is in the line of the length of the metal. This piece K is passed over the steel of the buslr and fastened thereon about midway, all being under the cover except the slotted and projecting end. The two pieces I I are made to slide uponthe cover of the busk, and there is sufficient friction to readily retain them wherever placed.
rIhe bush, being thus furnished with my attachnient, is applied to the corset as follows: The end slot N of stationary piece K is pushed astraddle the central pin E and under its head. The sliders I I are then brought, in the same manner, upon the end studs E E, when the busk is fast to the corset. g
Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I esteem to be new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
