Be it known thatI, DAVID Essnx, of Gorona, in the county of Bergen and State' of New Jersey, have invented an Improved Corings, whereby they are prevented from becoming accidentally unhooked.
My invention is herein shown as a laterally -movable steel spring attached to the busk, which is provided with the usual eye part. The said spring-fastening is adapted 'to' fall or spring behind or at the rear of the usual stud attached to the other busk when the said stud has been passed outwardly into the narrow or outer part of the said eye, thereby preventing the said stud from being moved back into the larger part'of the said eyethe position which it must occupy in order to un hook the corset-busks, unless the said springfastening has been first crowded back.
My invention consists in the combination, with a corset-busk, of an eye-plate provided with an opening to receive and hold the rear part of the laterally-movable spring-fastening, as will be hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents in plan view suflicient of a pair of corset-busks to illustrate a practicalembodiment of my invention, the steel being fastened. Figs. 2 and 3 represent the eye part of the busk and the fastening device separately, and Fig. 4 the eye part with the fastening in place upon it.
A and B represent portions of two busks, the formerbeing provided with an eye-plate, c, and the latter with a headed stud, d, each of which may be of usual construction. I have herein shown the plate 0 as provided with a slot having an enlarged or rounded portion, 6, and a straight part, f,- but instead of terminating the plate ,0 just at the rear of the usual rivets, 2, that attach the plate to the busk A, I have prolonged the same backward across buskA and provided it with a slot, x, into which I have placed the rear portion of the spring-fastening device Z, it being attached in working position to said plate a and the busk A by a rivet, 3, the said rivet and slotac co-operating to hold the spring-fastening in place,- prevent it turning laterally, and so that its acting face or faces 4 will, in normal position, stand in the path of the stud d as the latter is being passed from the enlarged part 6 into the elongated part f of the'eye in plate 0. It will be observed that each spring-arm 5 of the fastening is bent, as at 6, to permit the stud d to be entered readily into the enlarged part c of the eye in plate a, and that its acting face 4, in its normal condition, occupies a position between the enlarged part 6 and the outer end of the straight part f of the said eye; and consequently, as the stud d is passed from 6 along part f, it acts upon the face or faces 4 of the laterally movable fastening interposed above the said slot f, forces the said face or faces back laterally, and as the stud passes the said face or faces, according to whether the said fastening has one or two arms, the said face or faces spring back across the said slot f and prevent the return of the said stud along slot f to the enlarged part 6, except by the expenditure of sufficient force to overcome the stress of the spring-arms of the fastening.
This fastening constitutes-a locking device for the usual clasp, composed of the eye-plate c and stud d, or a stop to prevent the accidental unhooking of the elasps now so common in corsets. The fastening herein shown as composed of wire is very easy to make and attach to the eye-plate, and is inexpensive, yet efficient for the purpose intended. I
It is obvious that instead of wire thin sheet= steel may be used for the fastening.
I claim- The combination, with a COISQb-bllSk, of an eye-plate provided with the opening w, to re ceive and hold the rear' part of the laterally movable spring-fastening Z, substantially as shown and described.
