WITNE'EEBEE: K) W jiVENTE: 22 W THE NORRIS PETERS 60., PHOTtLLITHa, WASHINGTON. D (L UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK R. WATERMAN, OF MEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ERNEST J. HALL, OF BROGKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARMENT-CLASP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
Application filed December 14,1911. Serial No. 665,605.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. VVATERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medford, in the county of Middlesex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement 1n Garment-Clasps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the ac companying drawing.
My invention relates to that type of clasp which is provided with a tongue or spring clip adapted to contact with a stud and to retain the stud in position, it being the special object of my invention to make a tongue which will be readily maintained in position and which will not catch inthe garments of the wearer.
In the drawing Figure l is a top view of my device in operative position. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more specifically to the drawing, A is a plate bearing the rounded stud a which is adapted to enter the large end of the slot 6 of the plate B and to be drawn back into operative position, as shown in the drawing, where the narrowness of the slot 6 will prevent the enlarged topof the stud a from passing downwardly through it. The springwtongue tends to retain the stud a in operative position and is shown cut out of the plate B androlled back at its extremity to form the rounded end 6 which contacts with the stud a uponits upper surface in a manner whereby it may be forced upwardly by movement of the stud a and allow the stud a to pass. The tongue b is also provided with lugs 6 6 preferably stamped out integral therewith, which upon the arching of the tongue Z2 are brought to bear firmly by spring tension upon the plate B, thus positively retaining the tongue in its normal operative position and preventing it from becoming depressed into the slot 7) and bearing improperly upon the stud a. By theholes c the plates A and B may be fastened to the garment or other thing whereon the device is employed. v
It will be readily seen that my device contains no element which can'be caught in the garment of the wearer, or otherwise, and be displaced or bent out of its proper adjustment.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim i.s I
In a device of the character specified, a member bearing a stud, a slotted member adapted to receive said stud, a spring tongue integral with said slotted member and adapted to engage the side of the head of said stud and hold the same in operative position, and provided with lugs, said spring tongue being formed by the cutting of the slot in said slotted member, and the lugs thereon being adapted by the arching of said spring tongue and the spring pressure thereof to bear normally upon said slottedmember. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK R. WATERMAN.
