Description

L. A. BERGEN. PORTABLE STOVE.
I APPLICATION FILED MAY 5. I916.

3mm 4% 364g LAURA A. BERGEN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2'7, 1917.
Application filerl May 5, 1916. Serial No. 95,657.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAURA A. BERGEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in portable stoves and particularly to stoves adapted for attachment over gas jets.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel and simple device of this character which can be quickly and easily applied to a gas jet to support and heat the contents of small light cooking vessels.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which can be quickly andeasily folded so as to adapt the same to be easily packed in a trunk, suit-case or handbag.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which includes a novel means for concentrating the flame from the jet to the proper point for heating the contents of the cooking vessel.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an. elevation of my improved 'iortable stove;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section. on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the stand or supporting part of the device, in folded position;
Fig. 5 is an elevation of a modification of the device in which the hood is not used.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, and especially to Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4:, 10 represents a hollow metallic globular member in the upper and lower sides of which are formed openings 11 whereby the said member may be engaged on the gas burner 12. In the surrounding wall at the upper opening 11 are formed a plurality of openings in which are engaged the rings or eyes 1-l rigidly carried by the lower ends of the supporting arms 15. The upper ends of these arms are provided with hook mem bers 16 which are adapted for engagement through openings 17 formed in the lower portion of a hood 18 formed preferably of metal. Formed integrally on the upper end of the hood, or secured thereto, as desired, is a horizontally disposed disk 19 formed with a plurality of openings 20. On this disk are adapted to be placed the cooking vessels. A vertical flange 21 surrounds the periphery of the disk 19 and acts as a guard to prevent the utensils from sliding from the disk. The hood 18 thus confines the heat from the flame of the burner and directs the same upwardly through the openings of the disk.
The hood can readily be disengaged from the hook members 16, and then all of the arms 15 swung above the globular member 10 so as to occupy a small space for packing, as clearly shown in Fig. 4.
As shown in Fig. 5, the hood is dispensed with and the disk 22 supported on the upper ends of the arms 23 secured to the globular member 24- in the same manner as the arms 15. The disk is also provided with a surrounding flange 25. The arms 2?), by reason of their movable attachment to the. globular member 9A are also capable of being folded into a small and compact condition.
When the hood is not used, thearms 23 are necessarily longer than the arms 15 so that the said disk will be disposed at the same height above the burner as when the hood is used.
What is claimed is:
A portable stove comprising a hollow globular member open at the upper and lower sides and provided at its upper side with a series of openings adjacent the firstmentioned opening in its upper side, arms having eyes at their lower ends engaged in said openings, and means to hold the arms releasably in upwardly extending spread p0 sition and to support a vessel, said means comprising a frusto-conical annulus having In testimonywhereof, I aflix my signaopenings adjacent its vlower edge, the free ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
ends of the arms being bent upwardly t0 LAURA A. BERGEN form shoulders against Which said annulus l/Vitnessesz rests and then outwardly to form engaging JENME GADA,
means to enter said openings in the annulus. AGNES MOELLER.
