Be it known that I, HENRY D. PERKY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Niagara Falls, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have made acertain new and useful Invention in Stoves; and I declare the following to be a full,`clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper tains to makeY and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying draw-4 ings, and to letters andiigures of reference marked thereon, which form a part 'of this@ specification.
Figure 1 is a side view illustrating my init consists in the 'novel' construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanyingdrawings, the letteraJ designates the body of the stove, havingthe bottom b, side wall c, and top d, the latter usually removable.4 .The sidewall may bel made of a single piece oflshe'et-iron, as indicated.
The stove is oblong and is provided in rear of its narrower or constricted middle portionj with a fixed bracket-arm e, which has a vertical tubular bearing whereby it can be placed upon a standard f, having a stop g, which is adjustable to such height on the standard as may be required to suit the lamp yin use.,
The stop g is provided with a catch device g', which is designed to prevent the stove from turning on the standard. The stop on the standard i s independent of the bracket-arm,
which is permanently attached to the stove in order that when the stove is pivotally or otherwise adjusted or removed the stop may remain in its position on the standard, such position being in accordance with the height of the lamp in use. The stop being separate from the lamp is not liable to become unduly heated.

The bottom b is provided with a central circular opening h of suitable diameter to correspond with thetop of a lamp-chimney, so that".when the latter enters or approximates said opening the heat of the iiame will be directed into the interior of the stove. Openings k in the end portions of the bottom are usually provided in order that the stove may serve for use in connection with two small lamps when desirable. These openings k should be provided with slide-covers m, The top d is made with two or more circular openings n, designed to receive small cooking vessels which engage said openings, their lower portions depending within the stove-body.
The stove-body is madev longer than it is wide, and i-ts middle portion is strengthened by the horizontal tie -braces p, which are placed a little below the upper edge of the side wall. Horizontal tie-braces q are placed near the bottom parallel to each other, these serving to support a removable grating i", which is placed within the stove and serves as a rest for a baking-pan when such is introduced within the stove through the end door t. When the cover-top d is removed, a long chaiingdish can be placed in position on the stove,
its bottom depending in the upper part of the same, by which it is supported, as indicated at u.
Side dampers fu o are arranged under or'near the lower `tie-braces or rest-bars q over the sides of the middle opening, and a middle damper w of about the saine size as said side dampers is arranged over the middle portion of said opening in a slightly-higher position,
Abut near enough to said side dampers to cooperate therewith. These dampers can be adjusted to direct the heat toward either or both ends of the stove or toward the middle vthereof or'toward the middle and either end,
as may be desired. rlhese dampers are adjustable, and stop devices are provided to govern the position of said dampersafter adjustment.
The standard is made in sectionswhich engage each other by sleeve-and-tenon or other suitable joint, the lower section being provided with a screw-thread or other fastening IOO at its lower end, as indicated at 3, whereby it may be rigidly attached to a base 4.
The stove is designed to be made of sheet metal and is of oblong form with rounded ends. It is of small size, usually from eight to ten inches in length, in order that it shall be very light, easily manipulated, and readily cleaned. Its oblong form is designed to give the stove sufficient extent and capacity for service, while bringing its center of gravity close to the supporting standard, so that the leverage of the stove when weighted with the utensils and their contents will be reduced to a minimum. When adjusted properly in connection with the chimney of the lamp, the heat passes to the interior of the stove-body and is utilized for heating and cooking such articles of food as may be placed in or on the stove in suitable vessels. The heat from a lamp is always more powerful directly above the chimney-top, and in order to tone this down and effect better diffusion the middle damper is turned to the horizontal position, in which it forms an obstruction above the central bottom-opening, guiding the heat toward the end portions.
The adjustable stop on t'he standard is provided with a set-screw and is provided also with anotch or catch to engage the bracketarm of the stove, so as to prevent said stove from having pivotal motion on the standard.
The side wall of the stove is made in a single piece of sheet metal and is connected to the bottom by seaming or other metallic jointing. The cover-top is formed with a flange z to fit the open top of the side wall, it being practically made in cover form, as indicated. A second cover-top may be provided with a wire grating for use in connection with the stove for making toast.
When the stove is used in connection with a large stove-lamp having a wide wick, the V-form deiiect-ors 5 may be attached to the bottom, between the middle and the end openings thereof, these deiiectors being designed to direct the heat of such wide wick into the openings ofthe bottom,while protecting those portionsof the bottom which are between such openings. The heat for a lamp of ordinary size is quite sufficient for cooking small articles--such as a chop, an egg, a potato, or for baking small loaves of bread in an interior pan. Milk can be heated or coffee or tea made in vessels fitting in the openings of the cover-top, and a large chaiing-dish for use in connection with the open top portion of the stove will be found useful and efficient.
The middle portion of the stove is usually constructed or made narrower than the end portions in order to give it more the action of a ilue and avoid undue concentration of a mass of heat in the middle of the stove.
The surfaces of the sections of the joints of the standardfare tiush with each other, being so made to avoid joint enlargements, so
that the stove may be adjusted to any height without disconnecting its sleeve-bearing from the standard.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
1. The combination with a base and a sectional standard, having means of attachment thereto,of a portable removable oblong stove, its bracket arm and bearing, and an adjustable sleeve-support on said standard, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with an obling portable stove, of a bracket arm and bearing attached to its middle portion in rear, a Hush-surface sectional standard, its base-fastening, and an adjustable sleeve-support on said standard, substantially as specified.
3. The combination with a portable stove narrowed in its middle portion, of a bracket arm and bearing attached thereto in rear of said middle portion, a standard, its base-fastening, and an adjustable sleeve -support notched to engage said bearing and prevent pivotal movement, substantially as specified.
4. The combination with a portable oblong stove having a middle opening in the bottom, and a middle opening and end openings in its top, of deflecting-dampers over the middle, and lateral portions of said middle opening in the bottom, substantially as specified.
5. The combination with a supportingstandard of an oblong stove, having a middle narrower portion to bring its center of gravity near said standard, the tubular bearing of said middle narrower portion and an adjustable stop on said standard, substantially as specied.
6. The combination with a standard, of a removable portable stove, having a middle opening in its bottom, deflecting-dampers over and at the sides of said opening, end

doors and a removable cover-top having openings therein, substantially as specified.
7. A portable oblong stove having a constricted middle portion, a middle opening in its bottom, deecting-dampers over and at the sides of said middle opening, end doors, and a removable cover-top, substantially as specified.
8. The combination with a portable oblong stove, having a middle opening in its bottom, deecting-damper's over and at the sides of said middle opening, a removable cover-top, and a bracket and bearing of astandard, and means for holding said stove to adjustment thereon, substantially as specified.
9. The combination with a sectional standard, and an adjustable support thereon, of a removable portable stove having openings in its bottom and top, defiecting-dampers, and rack, and a bracket and bearing to engage said standard and support, substantially as specified.
