To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY F. BERN HARDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVestbury, in the county of Nassau, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Jet Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stoves and more particularly to stoves designed to be placed over gas jets, and has for its object to provide a stove of this kind which will be so constructed that it will be easily and quickly placed in position upon a gas jet or re moved therefrom and which may be easily disassembled to occupy little space when not in use.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which may be used in conjunction with an ordinary gas tip so as not to interfere with the illumination of a room in which it may -be used and which will also serve to spread the heat properly over the bottom of any utensil which may be used thereupon.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of the present invention attached to a gas burner. Fig. 2 is a top plan of the band and flame spreader. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through Fig. 1 on line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan of the flame spreader. Fig. 5 is an elevational view of the device with the parts disassembled for packing. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the flame spreader.
Referring now to the drawings there is shown a gas jet 10 having a tip tube 11 in which there is engaged the usual tip 12. The present invention comprises a sleeve 13 which is engaged upon the tube 11 and having an enlarged circular base 14:. This tube is split at its upper end as indicated at 15 and is threaded around its split portion as shown at 16 to receive an interiorly threaded nut 17 which thus clamps the sleeve upon the tube. Secured to the enlarged base 142 of the sleeve there are a plurality of radial yokes 18 having crossed pins 19 which receive pivotally thereupon the lower ends 20 of upwardly and outwardly extending supporting arms 21 which project a considerable distance above the upper end of the tube 11 and which have their extremities bent inwardly as shown at 22 and then upwardly as shown at 23. The upwardly extending end portions 23 are engaged within a circular band 2 1 which has a plurality of loops 25 upon its inner face receiving the extremities 23 and thus the band is held upon the upper portions of the arms 21 and is supported at its edges upon the inwardly turned portions 22 thereof.
lVithin the band 24 there is secured a flame spreading device 25. This device consists of a cast metal cross having arms 26 which are hollow and which are closed at their outer ends. All the arms are open at the under face of the casting from their centers to points adjacent their outer ends as indicated at 27 to form a cross-shaped opening in the under face of the casting and this opening is surrounded by a flange 28 which is continuous, conforming to the shape of the opening, the flange being slanted downwardly and outwardly as shown. The casting thus presents a hollow under surface to the gas flame from the tip 12 so as to receive the heat from the flame and distribute it through the several arms 26 of the casting and these arms are provided with openings 26 in their upper surfaces which permit the egress of heat to the bottom of the utensil which may be disposed upon the upper edge of the band 24.
It will be seen that the device may be readily adjusted upon almost any gas jet and that when not in use it may be removed, the band 24 disengaged from the arms 21 and the latter folded upon their pivotal connection with the yokes 20 to occupy little space, the yokes being of suflicient length to permit the arms to lie parallel with each other or to converge toward each other when folded without being interrupted by the nut 17. i
