UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN SCOTT, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
GAS-FIXTURE ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Soon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Fixture Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide simple, economical gasfixture attachments designed for the support of hair-curling irons while heating the same and when not in use, the employment of said supports serving to facilitate the heating of said irons and to prevent smutting of the same.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a side elevation of an attachment in accordance with my invention applied to a gasfixture and supporting a hair-curling iron in position to be heated, and by dotted lines a pivotal sleeve portion of the attachment is shown swung back out of the way of the gas-flame; Fig. 2, a sectional view on the plane indicated by line 2-2 in Fig.1, and Fig. 3, a perspective view of a spring-wire bracket member of said attachment.
Referring by numerals to the drawings 4t indicates the burner-end of a gas-fixture to which an attachment in accordance with my invention is applicable. The bracketmember of the attachment is a single piece of suitably bent spring-wire, preferably brass, the bending of the wire bein such as to form a lower circular loop 5, fi'OSESd horizontal stretches 6, 7, a vertical stem 8, an upper loop 9 and a pivot 10 crossing the upper loop central of the same. The upper loop is downwardly bent in opposite directions from the stem 8, and its depressed ends may be angular, as herein shown, or semicircular as may be most convenient or desirable in practice. Another member of the attachment is a tube 11, the same being apertured adjacent to one end thereof for the engagement of the pivot 10 aforesaid. The tube has play within the upper bracketloop 9, and rests upon one or the other end of said 100p when in horizontal position.
By pressing upon the stretches 6, 7, of the spring-wire bracket, the loop 5 is expanded Specification of Letters Patent.

so as to permit of its being slipped down on the burner of a gas-fixture, and the pressure being removed, the contraction of said loop serves to effect a grip of the same on said burner, whereby said bracket is supported in working position. The tube 11 being swung into the position shown by full lines in Fig. 1, it will be in the zone of the blue-flame of the lighted burner for the engagement of the hair-curling iron to be heated, such an iron 12 in said tube being shown in said Fig. 1. The iron being within the tube, it cannot become smutted from the gas-flame and is therefore ready for immediate use as soon as withdrawn from said tube, no wiping ofl being necessary. It has also been demonstrated that the iron will heat more rapidly in the tube than if it be held directly in the flame, whereby a saving in gas-consumption is effected, and the time of the person using said iron may be utilized for other purposes while said iron is left in said tube during the heating operation. To clear the gasflame the tube may be swung into the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and the curling-iron may be left in said tube if desired. It has also been demonstrated that if the tube be of brass it will not become smutted by contact with a gas-flame. Hence it requires little if any cleaning, and the attachment as a whole may be readily carried about from place to place with a curling-iron, thus making it a convenient toilet accessory.
While I have shown a preferred form of gas-fixture attachment, for the purpose specified, various changes in matters of detail may be made without departure from my invention as herein claimed.
I claim:
1. An attachment comprising a single piece of spring-wire bent to form a lower horizontal clamping-loop, a vertical stem, an upper loop, and a pivot crossing the upper loop, together with a tube on the pivot to have support in said upper loop of the bracket in the zone of the flame of a lighted burner of a gas-fixture caught in the clamploop of said bracket.
2. An attachment comprising a single piece of spring-wire bent to form a lower horizontal clamping-loop, a vertical stem, an upper .loop, and a pivot crossing the loop central of the same, together with a tube on the pivot .to have support upon either terin the county of Milwaukee and State of minal of said upper loop of the bracket to Wisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
be in or out of the zone of the flame of a lighted burner of a gas-fixture caught in JOHN SCOTT 5 the clamp-loop of said bracket. Witnesses:
In testimony that I claim the foregoing N. E. OLIPHANT, I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee M. E. DOWNEY.
