UNITED STATE PATENT WERNER E. CLARIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO AXEL NELSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
GAS-HEATER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. is, rare.
Application filed April 9, 1913. serial to. 759,951;
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, WERNER E. CLARIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to gas heaters and more particularly to the class of such heaters adapted to be fitted on gas light burners, or the like.
The object of this improvement is to provide a simple and effective device of the character mentioned which may be readily adjusted to and taken from a gas light burner. Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a heater embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is an enlarged view, in perspective, of one of the spacing ties between members of the heater. Fig. 4 is an enlarged section taken on line l4 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a flanged sleeve 4 adapted to slide over and fit a conventional gas light burner 5.
WVire supporting legs 7 are each encircled around the groove of sleeve 4 and disposed substantially as indicated. A wire 8 is encircled around the remaining portion of the sleeve 4: and provided with a space between its ends through which a screw 6 passes. The encircling portions of supporting members 7 are rotatably mounted on the sleeve 4 in a manner to be folded into positions near each other when not in use.
The reflecting portion of the heater comprises a conical shaped reflector 9 which rests on the upper ends of the supporting members 7. Spaced below the reflecting member 9 is a second reflecting member 10 having a perforation 11 in its central portion and small perforations 10 near its periphery for the passage of the upper ends of supporting members 7 as clearly indicated. The reflecting member 10 is spaced from refleeting member 9 by means of ties 12. The ties 12 are provided with shoulders 13 which maintain the reflecting members 9 and 10 apart and the end portion 14: of ties 12 are inserted through the reflecting members 9 and 10 and bent over to prevent their moving apart as is clearly indicated.
An inverted conical reflector 15 is secured to the central portion of reflector member 9 by means of a sleeve 16 and screw 17 to maintain the reflector member 15 immediately over the perforation 11 in reflecting member 10.
In use the sleeve 4 is adjusted to a conventional gas burner 5 and the supporting members 7 revolved on the sleeve 4: until their upper end portions may be inserted through the perforations near the periphery of reflector member 10 and passed therethrough for engagement with the reflector member 9. Heat upon leaving burner 5 passes upwardly through the opening 11 against reflector member 15 and is radiated downwardly between reflector members 9 and 10 and out into the room in which the device is located. Portions of the heat which does not pass directly upward is engaged by the conical portion of the reflector member 10 and passes downwardly around the periphery of said reflector member into the room.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters supporting arms, each having an end portion encircling said sleeve, substantially as described.
2. A device of the kind described c01nprising an upper reflector; a lower reflector having perforations near its edges; ties between said reflectors, having shoulders engaging the latter and ends extending through and bent over said reflectors spac-' ing them apart; supporting arms extending through the perforation in said lower reflector and having their ends engaging the under side of said upper reflector, substantially as described. 7
In testimony whereof I have signed my 15 7 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WERNER E. OLARIN.
