Description
STOVEPIPE HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED 0Ec.3. 1912.
Patented J an. 30, 1917.
In. 2 .1.. I
MM W,
LEONARD P. WIRTZ, OF PILGER, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
STOVEPIPE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 30, 1.917.
Application filed December 3, 1912. Serial No. 734,767.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD P. VVIR'rz, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Pilger, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in stove pipe holders, and has particular reference to a device for holding the stove pipe in the flue opening of the chimney.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap structure of this character which will securely hold the pipe in position, and which may be quickly and easily attached or detached.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and with particular reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the stove pipe showing my invention applied, .a portion of the chimney being shown in section, Fig. 2 is a top plan view, the chimney being shown in horizontal section, Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring particularly to the drawings, 10 represents a stove pipe composed of a number of sections, the end 11 of the innermost section of which is inserted in the flue opening of the chimney, the section 10 of the pipe being connected to the vertical section 11, by means of the elbow 12, said elbow being transversely corrugated as clearly shown.
The holder consists of a series of detachably connected members 13, 14, 15, and 16, the member 13 having formed on one end the laterally extending finger 17 which is engaged with the inner face of the chimney. These links are of different lengths whereby the holder can be adjusted to stove pipes of diflerent lengths between the flue opening in the chimney and the elbow. The opposite end of the member 13 is provided with a hook 18 for engagement with a hook 19 on the member 14. The member 14 and the member 15 are each provided with hooks on their opposite ends, the members 14 and 15 being hooked together, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, the opposite end of the member 15 being attached to the hooked end 20 of the member 16. The opposite end of the member 16 is threaded, to receive a Winged nut 21.
A ring 22 formed preferably of stout wire is formed on one side with the loop or eye 23 through which passes the member 16, the ends of the ring 22 being provided with the eyes 24 to receive therethrough the clamping bolt 25, whereby the ring may be securely clamped to the elbow, and engage one or the other of the corrugations.
In assembling the parts the lateral arm 17 of the member 13 is first inserted in the flue, after which the end. of the pipe 10 is inserted. The members 13, 14, 15 and 16 are then connected together, and the threaded end of the member 16 is passed through the eyes 24 of the ring 22, after the ring 22 has been securely clamped to the elbow. The nut 21 is screwed on tightly so as to bear against the eyes 24 and exert a pull on the member 13 and at the same time pushing the pipe 10 into the flue. Thus the pipe is securely held in position in the flue opening.
What is claimed is:
In a stove pipe holder, the combination with a chimney having a lateral flue opening, a pipe projecting into said opening, a transversely corrugated elbow carried on the end of said pipe and extending downward therefrom, a ring having an eye above said elbow and secured around the elbow in the bottom of one of the corrugations, a series of detachably connected links of different lengths, a hook formed on the innermost link for engagement with the inner wall of the flue, the outermost link being threaded and being adapted to pass through the eye of said ring, and a nut on the extremity of the outermost link bearing against said eye.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
