Be it known that 1, MATHEW ALS'ION, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Holders; and 1 do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for holding stovepipes in chimneys, fines, &c.

The object of my invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

WVith this and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through a chimney and stovepipe, showing the application of my improved holder. Fig.2 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device removed from the pipe and chimney. Fig. 1 is a detail sectional view through the clamp.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 denotes a chimney, 2 a stovepipe, and 3 my improved device for holding the stovepipe in the chimney. The said holder 3 consists of a clamping-band 4t, by means of which it is attached to the Stovepipe, a holding-rod 5, adapted to engage the chimney, and a clamp 6 for adjustably securing said rod and band together. The connecting-clamp 6 comprises a narrow strip of sheet metal bent to form a substantially rectangular loop, as shown in Fig. 1. Its sides 7, adjacent to their lower or inner ends, are formed with alining apertures 8, through which the holding-rod 5 is passed, and the top 9 of said clamp-loop is formed with a centrally-disposed aperture 10, through which a screw 11 is passed and screwed into a nut 12, disposed within the clamp-loop and held against rotation by the sides 7. The attaching-band passes through the clamp-loop and bears against the inner side thereof. The rod 5 bears against the attaching-Mind, and the end of the screw 11 bears against the outer side of the said rod. Said screw serves to clamp the attaching-band between the clamploop and the rod, as will be understood. The attaching-band a is in the form of a strip of sheet metal and is bent in circular form to surround the stovepipe 2, upon which it is adjustably clamped by passing a screw 13 through its bent apertured ends 11 and screwing a nut 15 upon the outer end of said screw. The inner end of the rod 5 is bent to form a right-angularly-projecting hook 16, which is adapted to engage the inner face of the chimney, as shown in Fig. 1, to prevent the stovepipe from falling out or becoming casually displaced. The outer end of the rod has its end 17 also bent at right angles, but in a plane at right angles to the plane of the hook 16. Said end 17 forms a handle by means of which the hook 16 may be turned inwardly or outwardly to engage or disengage the interior of the chimney.

The use and advantages of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that the device is simple, durable, and may be produced at a very small cost. Furthermore, it may be adjusted upon various sizes of chimneys and pipes and is well adapted for the purpose intended. It will not only effectively prevent the stovcpipe from falling out. but, owing to the engagement of the band with the outer face of the chimney, it will prevent the pipe being forced too far into the chimney.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A Stovepipe-holder comprising a clamploop having apertured sides, a holding-rod in the apertures of said sides adapted to engage a chimney, an attaching-band passed through said loop and adapted to be attached to a stovepipe, and a screw in said loop for adjustably securing said rod and said band, substantially as described.

2. A Stovepipe-holder comprising a clamploop having apertured sides, a holding-rod in the apertures of'said sides having a chimneyenga-ging hook at one end and a handle at its opposite end, a circular attaching-band passed through said loop and having bent apertured ends, a screw-bolt in the apertures of said end, a nut upon the end of said bolt, and. a screw in said loop for adjustably clamping said rod and band against movement, substantially as described.
