STGVEPIPE-ANCHOR.
` Application le'. April 1S, 1914.
To all fr0/10m it may concern Be it known that l, JAMES M. iVILsoN, a citizen oi" the United States orp America, residing at Minot, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota,l have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Anchors, ot' which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a stove pipe anchor and hasitor its object the production of an etlicient and simple means for allowing the elbow of a stove pipe to be in engagement with the chimney or flue thereby eliminating any danger of the stove pipe falling apart when the saine is in use.
Another object or" this invention is the production of an anchor member which is adapted to engage the chimney oriiue for holding the stove pipe in engagement therewith, this anchoi-` member being so formed as to allow the same to be easily adjusted to accommodate different sized tlues.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
1n the accompanying drawing z-Figure 1 is a sectional view through the anchor and a portion of a stove pipe showing the manner in which the same operates. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section -through the stove pipe anchor. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. l is a detailed perspective view of the supporting plate and pivoted strip. Fig. 5 is a fragmentarj7 perspective view of the adjustable arm.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals 1 designates a stove pipe elbow which is adapted to be used in connection with an ordinary chimney or flue 2. A suitable thimble 3 may be carried by said chimney 2, this thimble 3 being provided with outwardly bent flanges 5 fitting upon the inner and outer surfaces of the chimney or flue for retaining the same in position. rlhe inner end of the elbow l is adapted to be po` sitioned within the thimble 3, the inward movement of this elbow being limited by an annular rib 6.
. For the purpose of retaining the elbow 1 in engagement with the chimney 2 there is provided a supporting plate 7 having an aperture 8 through which the bolt 9 passes. This bolt 9 passes through the elbow 1 as Specification of Letters lvatent.

clearly disclosed in Fig. 2 for retaining the plate in engagement with the elbow. lt is also desirable to have a spacing-strip 10 positioned between the plate 7 and the elbow 1 so as to allow the anchoring portions of the device to easily operate. The end portion ot the plate 7 opposite to the aperture 8 terminates in a plurality of sleeves 11 which are formed in a spaced relation for the purposes hereinafter to be described. The pivoted strip 12 having a coiled tongue 13 is' pivotally supported upon the plate 7 by passlng a pivot pin 14C through the sleeves 11 and tongue 13. rilhis tongue 13 is positioned between the sleeves 11 `for holding this pivoted strip 12 in a central position. The body portion ot this pivoted strip 12 is corrugated as shown at 15 and is also provided with the bolt portions 16 and 17 which eX- tend from opposite faces of the pivoted strip 12. IThe arm 18 having the corrugated portion 19 at one end is held in engagement with the pivoted strip 12 by allowing the corrugated portions 19 and 15 to register, while the bolt 17 carried by the strip 12, passes through the longitudinally extending slot 2O formed in the corrugated portion 19 of the finger 18. A wing-nut 2l is then threaded upon the bolt 17 thereby securely locking the arm 18 in engagement with the pivoted strip 12. The opposite end of the arm 18 terminates in the upwardly extending linger 22 terminating in a bowed portion 23 which is adapted to engage the chimney or flue 2 as disclosed in Fig. 1, thereby causing the arm 1S to have a spring-like binding action upon the chimney 2 for positively holding the elbow 1 in its correct position. T he bolt 16 carried by the pivoted strip 12 passes through the registering slots 24 formed in the spacing-strip 10 and the elbow 1 and is provided upon its outer end with the wing nut 25, this wing nut and bolt being adapted to hold the arm 18 and pivoted strip 12 against swinging when in use.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that the wing nut 21 may be moved upon the bolt 17 at which time the arm 18 may be adjusted to accommodate the thickness of the chimney 22. T benut may then be tightened. rlhe opening 'l may then be passed into the thimble 3 at which time the arm may be swung upwardly so as to allow the finger 22 to engage the chimney 2. The nut 25 may then be threaded upon the bolt 16 at which time the anchoring member will be eliiciently and securely locked in a set adjusted position for holding the elbow in engagement with the chimney.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a simple and eiiicient device has been produced for detachably holding a stove pipe in engagement with a chimney or flue, this device being so formed as to be easily adjusted to accommodate the thickness of a chimney and which is so formed as to allow the device to beeasily detached when it is desired to remove the stove pipe.
, claim:
l. ln a device ofthe class described the combination with a stove pipe, a plate secured tosaid stove pipe, a strip pivotally secured to said plate, said strip provided with a corrugated portion, an arm secured tosaid strip, said arm provided with a plurality of coi-rugations adapted to mesh with the corrugations formed on said strip, means j ior retaining said arm in engagement with y Copesa this patent may be obtained for said strip, said arm terminating in an upwardly extending curved linger adapted to engage a chimney, and means for holding j said strip and arm in a set position. v
2. In a device of the-class described the combination lwith a stove pipe, a plate secured to the inner portion of saidstovek pipe, said plate provided with a plurality of spaced sleeves, a lstrip having a coiled tongue pivotally secured to said sleeves, said strip provided With a plurality of corrugations, an arm provided with a plurality of corrugations, the corrugations of said arm and said strip adapted to register, said arm provided with a longitudinal slot formed in the corrugated portion thereof, securing means carried by said strip and passing through said slot for holding said arm in an adjusted set position whereby said arm will swing withv JAMES M.
