To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD C. FIsHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burr Oak, in the county of Jewell and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a fullclear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention is an improved device for use by workmen in holding numerous kinds of tools, the object being to provide an extremely simple yet highly efficient article which may be easily and inexpensively manufactured.

With this general object in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawing which constitutes a part of this application and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the improved tool holder; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view thereof; Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. i is a perspective view of a different type of attaching plate.

In specifically describing the structure shown. in the drawing above briefly de scribed, similar characters will be employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and reference will be herein made to the numerous elements by their respective indices. To this end, the numeral 1 designates a stiff flat attaching plate having a pair of openings 2 formed thcrethrough, a pair of attaching bolts 8 being passed rcarwardly through said openings and having their heads 4 countersunk in. the front side of plate 1. The straight intermediate portion 5 of a spring metal strip 6 contacts with the front side of the plate 1 and with the heads 4, the ends 7 of said strip being curved forwardly into ap proximately (3 shape to form a pair of yielding fingers to grip a tool therebetween. At the juncture of the straight and curved portions of the strip 6, claws 8 are clenched around the opposite edges of said strip, these claws being struck laterally from the four corners of the plate 1.

By the unique structure described, the heads 4 of the bolts 3 will be frictionally held against rotation within the openings 2 and the claws 8 will reliably prevent ende wise shifting of the strip 6 due to the location of said claws. Thus, it will be seen that the device will be highly efficient, regardless of its extreme simplicity.

In use, the free ends of the bolts 3 are passed through a carpenters apron or the like A as indicated in Fig. 2 and a washer plate 9 and nuts 10 are applied to said bolts, whereby the entire device is held in a convenient position and may serve to support a hammer or any other tool which the user may see fit to place therein.

In Fig. 4-, a modified form of structure is illustrated for permitting the device to be attached to a linemans belt. In this figure, the numeral 11 designates an attaching plate having integral cross heads 12, said heads being formed with slots 13 to receive a belt B which will be passed around the users waist, said belt being preferably of the type commonly used by telegraph and telephone linemen.

From the foregoing, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the c0nstruction, manner of operation and advantages of the improved device will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation but in conclusion I will state that although certain specific details have been shown and described for accomplishing probably the best results, minor changes may be made within the scope of the invention as claimed.

I claim:

1. A tool holder comprising a strip of spring metal having a straight intermediate portion and having its two ends curved forwardly to grip a tool therebetween, and a stiff attaching plate contacting with the rear side of said straight portion of the strip, said plate having integral claws clenched around the edges of the aforesaid strip at the juncture of the straight and curved portions thereof, whereby said strip is secured in position and is reliably held against longitudinal shifting.
