IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED FLQUR-CHESTS AND CUPBOARDS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,496, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TEoMAs JEFFERSON CORE, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Flour- Chest and Cupboard, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyn g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specication.
The nature of my invention consists in certain improvements upon the hour-chest for which Letters Patent were granted to me February ll, 1868, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section of my combined iiourchest and cupboard. Fig. 2 is a plan view of a flour-sifter, and Fig. 3 an end view of a doughtray, both of which are used in my flour-chest. Fig. 5 is a front view, showing a small portion of the lower part of my hour-chest.
-A represents the shell of my chest resting upon legs B B, and provided with a central transverse partition, C, which divides the interior into two equal compartments. One of these compartments is, by a movable partition, D, divided into two smaller ones. One end of this partition D is inserted in a groove formed in the end-piece of the chest, while the other end of said parttion has at its upper corner a lug, a, which is pressed down into a corresponding notch in the stationary partition C, and by this means the movable partition is held iirmly in its place. Upon each end of this chest is a box, E, with hinged lid G opening outward. These boxes are provided with movable tills H, with compartments for various spices, &c. The remaining portion of the flour-chest between the boxes E E is covered by a hinged inclined lid, I, opening upward, as shown. In the upper back part of the chest are hooks b b for the reception of a rolling-pin, J, and cake-cutters K K. In this portion of the chest is also pivoted a Hour-sieve composed of a frame, L, pivoted at one end, so
as to be turned outward over the dough-tray M. In this frame is hung the sieve d, and an ovalshaped bar or agitator, N, is placed in the same, the journals of said agitator passing into the frame L, and one of said journals having a crank on its end by means of which the agitator is revolved. The sieve and agitator may be lifted out of the frame L so as to empty out the coarse remains of the iiour after it has been sifted. The dough-tray M is at on one side and concave on the other, with iia-nges or ledges on the front and back edges to be inserted in grooves in the chest A, and is provided with springs d d on the back edge to hold it in the front groove. It can readily be taken out and turned over when desired. rlhis tray is of such size as to completely cover either of the main compartments in the chest, thereby preventing the adlnixture of the dierent articles of breadstuil while using either. In front of the main chest A is a leaf, O, hinged in the form of an ordinary leaf-table, and supported when raised by a metallic bracket, P, which swings out and in, as shown. Under the inain chest is a drawer, It, which slides back and forth, or rather in and out, by means of a matched tongue, c, made fast to the legs B B ofthe chest and working in a groove in the drawer. This drawer is designed for a receptacle for breadpans, pie-tins, &c. Above all, at the back, is the dish-safe or cupboard S, provided with foldingdoors, shelves, and drawers. Thisis made separate om the chest, and attached on the top by means of screws or otherwise, for convenience and to economize room.
Havin g thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the flour-chest A, partitions O D, boxes E with lids G,1 and tills H, sifter L, hooks b, dough-tray M, leaf O, with bracket P, drawer R, and cupboard S, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of August,
T. J. CORR. Witnesses:
