LAURA HANGER MYERS, OF CHIGAGO, ILLINOIS.
BECEPTACLE FOR LIGHTED CIGARS.
ascents.
Application filed. December 18, 1514..
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LAURA MANGER liiYnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Lighted Cigars, of which the following is a specification.
Frequently a smoker will desire to extinguish a lighted cigar and preserve the remaining portion for further use.
The present invention relates to a receptacle for receiving lighted cigars or the like and providing means for quickly extinguishing the same, as well as preserving the unburned portion.
The objects of this invention are to prcvide such a receptacle which may be readily adjusted for receiving different lengths of cigar stubs, which is provided with means for extinguishing the lighted end of a cigar and insulating the same so that the heat will be retained, which may be readily carried in the pocket, and which will have such other advantages as will appear from the following description.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention: Figure 1 is a side view of the same; 2 is a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 8 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is an end view showing the hinged cover.
As illustrated in these drawings, 5 represents a tube or cylinder which is open at one end and closed at the other end, as indicated at 6. The tube 5 has a bead 7 at one end and a flange 8 at the opposite end. A second tube or shell 9 fits over the tube 5, and is provided with an inwardly projecting flan e 10 at one end, for engagement with the ange and bead on the tube 5, to hold the parts together. While these flanges form a convenient means of preventing the telescoping parts from becoming disconnected, any suitable arrangement may be used for this purpose. The outer end of the tube 9 is provided with a cover 11, which preferably has a hinge 12 at one side, and a catch 13 at the opposite side. The tube and cover are preferably provided with apertures 14: and 15, to provide ventilation for the receptacle, although such openings may be omitted if desired.

Serial No. 877,990.
W hen the user desires to extinguish the lighted end of cigar, he places the cigar in the holder or receptacle, and presses it down until the lighted end fits closely Within the tapered opening 17 in the lining of non-combustible material 16. This will quickly extinguish the fire on the cigar, and if he wishes to leave the same in the receptacle, the outer tube or casing 9 is pressed down until the cover 11 holds the cigar closely in )osition. The non-conducting lining 16 will prevent the tube 5 from becoming heated to any objectionable extent, so that the device may be placed in the pocket without danger of burning the clothes. The openings in the tube 9 and cover 11 provide ventilation, so that any small amount of smoke which is produced after the cigar is inserted in the holder may escape therefrom. The conical or tapered opening in the lining 16 is such that a close fit is insured with the lighted ends of cigars of varying sizes, and the pressing of the lighted end into such tapered opening tends to compress the end, and more quickly extinguish the fire.
Having thus described my invention, which, however, I do not wish to limit to the precise form or arrangement shown and described, except as specified in the following claims, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A receptacle for lighted cigars, comprising a tube having a non-combustible lining in one end thereof for receiving the lighted end of a cigar and open at the other end, a second tube telescoping with said firstnamed tube, said second tube being perforated and having a cover at the outer end thereof. a
2. A receptacle for lighted cigars, co1nprising telescoping members, with a perforated cover at one end and closed at the opposite end, and having a lining of non-combustible material in the closed end, said lining being formed with a tapered recess for receiving the lighted end of a cigar.
3. In a receptacle for cigars, the combination of a tube closed at one end and open at tube and cover having ventilating openings the opposite end, a lining of n0n-co1nbustible therein.
material in the closed end of the tube, hav- LAURA MANGER M ER ing a substantially conical recess therein for receiving the lighted end of a cigar, a second VVitnesses': 1 tube telescoping With said first-named tube, V V M. M(VVHITE', and a cover for said second tube, said second E. V. GUSTAFSON.
