CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1921.
Application filed February 1, 1921. Serial No. 441,542. g
Be .it known that I, GUST LAMPESSIS, a subject of Greece, and resident of Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This" invention relates to cigar and cigarette holders and has primarily for its object to provide a holder adapted to form a container or inclosure for the cigar or cigarette whereby the same may be placed in the pocket in a lighted condition without danger of fire, at the same time preventing any escape of smoke.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder of this character with means for regulating the draft therethrough, thereby preventing the cigar or cigarette from too rapid or uneven burning when the same is being smoked while driving or exposed to high winds.
With these and other objects in view which will be apparent as the description roceeds, my invention consists in what is hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the ac'com anying drawings:
Figure 1 s owe a -longitudinal view through the cigar holder embodying the features of my invention.
- Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken upon the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2. V Fig. 4 is an elevational plan view of the holder. 7
' Fig. 5 is a "longitudinal sectional view through a modified form of the invention, particularly adapted for use in connection with cargarettes.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged transverse sectional view'taken upon the line 6-6 of Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 6, and illustrates the method of opening the holder to remove the ashes.
Referring now more particularly to the "accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 lar to that provided in the housing and in register therewith. Disposed between the sleeve and housing is a cover 4, adapted to be 1 tight fit to cause the sleeveB to be rotated to form a closure for the openingv 2 of the housing. When the cover is not in use it 1s rotated downward between the sleeve 3 and housin as shown in Fig. 3.
One end of the ousing 1 is adapted to rec'elve the reduced portion of a mouthpiece 5, which reduced portion is of a sufficiently wedged between 1t and'the housing, thereby prevent mg it from becoming displaced with reference to the opening 2 of the housing. The opposite end of the housing 1 similarly recelves the reduced neck of a spherical end closure 6 provided with a plurality of openings 6' to admit air within the housing when so desired. Disposed over the end osure and threaded upon the end of the housing 1 1s a shel1 7, provided with holes adapted to reglster with the opening 6' of the end closure to form a-closuretherefor when so desired. y 1
A screen or perforated plate 8 is. pivoted to one side ofthe housing adjacent the opening 2 and forms a cover for said opening to prevent anything from comingin'c'ontact with the lighted cigar or cigarette when the cover 4 is open.
In operation the mouthpiece 5'is with: drawn from the housing and a cigar placed wlthm the tapered recess. The cigar is then lnserted into the housing and passed throu h the loops 9 formed at the opposite end 0 a shank 10 constituting a guard to prevent the cigar from resting upon or comlng in contact with the sleeve The screen 8 is then swung open to permit lightlng the cigar, and if so desired, the cover 4 can then be revolved to close the openin 2 of the housing. Upon entering a bull lng or'such place where'it is not desired to smoke, the shell 7 can be rotated slightly upon the threaded end of the housmg, causing the openings 6 of the end .6 to be closed, permitting the user to place the holder in t e pocket without danger of fire, and at the same time preventing the escape of smoke which might be obnoxious.
In Fig. .5 I have shown a modified form of m invention which is similar in principle to that disclosed in Fig. 1. This .form is bent back upon themselves at 11 to form guides for a shutter plate 12, having openings which can register with the openings the shutter plate 12 to be shifted to form a closure for the perforations within the plate 8.
Positioned within the interior of the housingis a guard similar to that used in connection with that form shown in Fig. 1. It
will be noted that in the structure shown in Fig. 5 a flat end is procured which will permit the holder to be stood vertically upon its end.
While I have shown and described two forms in carrying out my invention, it will be understood that various changes in details of construction are contemplated within the appended claims.
What I claim is: I
1. A cigar or cigarette holder comprising a housing provided with an opening, acover adapted to close said opening, a detachable mouthpiece for one end of the housing and an end closure provided. with openings for the opposite end of the housing.
2. A cigar or-cigarette holder comprising a housing having an opening in its side, a slidable cover for said opening, a mouthpiece inserted in one end of the housing, an
end closure positioned in the opposite end of the housing and provided with openings, and means for closing said openings.
3. A cigar. or cigarette holder comprisinga casing provided with an opening, a sleeve positioned within said casing and having an opening adapted to register with the open ing in said housing,'a cover positioned between s'aid sleeve and housing, adapted to form a closure for the opening in said sleeve,
a mouthpiece for one end of the housing, a closure for the opposite end of the housing, said closure being provided with. openings, and means for closing said. openings.
4. A cigar or cigarette holder comprising a housing having an opening in its side, a linin for said housing, a rotatable cover positioned between the housing and lining, a mouthpiece for one end of the housing, and a closure provided with openings for the opposite end of the housing, said mouthpiece and closure being adapted to wedge and hold the lining in place. i
5. A cigar or cigarette holder comprising a housing provided with an opening, a l1ning positioned within said housing and provided with an opening adapted to reg1ster with the opening in said housing means adapted to close the opening in the housing, a mouthpiece for one end of the housing, and means positioned within the opposite end of the housing 'to regulate the draft therethrough.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set In hand at Milwaukee in the county of Miwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
