' I COMBINATION --VENTILATOR AND CARI) HOLDER."
Application filed September 15, 1923. s mi m5. 662,957.
. To-aZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I,,.J. LEWIS PALLEY, a
citizen of the. United States, and a resident of Pittsburgh, in the county ofAllegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful.Improvement in Gombina tion Ventilators and vCard Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relatesto ventilating devices and particularly to ventilating devices for lunch boxes and kits.
One object of my invention is to provide means that shall serve to permit the ventilation of a lunch kit or similar receptacle while at the same time precluding the admission of dust thereto.
Another object Of my invention is to provide a ventilatingdevice for a lunch kit or similar container whereby proper ventilation may be permitted to preclude the spoiling of food therein.
Another ob'ect of my invention is to pro I vide a ventilating device of the above indicated character that shall also serve asa cardholder whereby the owner of the kit may-identify it among others.
A further object of my invention is to provide a combination ventilator. and cardholder of the above indicated character that shall be simple and inexpensive in construction.
In practicing my invention, I provide a plurality of perforations through one of the side walls of the containeror kit. I then dispose a covering member of substantially saucer shape that is also provided with a plurality of perforations so as to cause the apertures in the covering memberto be ofl'set from those in the side wall of the kit. The covering member thus permits freeventila tion while at the same time precluding the p direct admission of dust into the interior of: the kit.
A portion of the covering member is depressed and two slots provided at the respective ends of the depression to receive a card or other identifying means whereby the owner of the lunch kit may identify the same.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is 1 vice.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the venti.-.
latingfdevice taken along the. vertical line IIII, and 1 Figure'3. is a sectional view of the 'venti- PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, A1303;
lating devicetaken along the horizontal line I As illustrated in the accompanying drawa in'gs, a portable receptacle such as a lunch device Lis so disposed as to enclose andcover the apertures 2 the Wall of the kit 1.
The ventilating device 4 constitutes v a member of substantially saucer shape and is 1 provided with a plurality of apertures 5, a depressed portion 6 and two slots 7 and 8 at the respective ends of the depressed portion 6. The slots 7 and 8 are adapted to receive a card or other identifying means 'whereby the owner may identify his kit when placed among many others. v
The ventilating device 4: is secured to the box by means of a rivet 9 or other suitable fastening means to preclude relative move ment therebetween and is so disposed when secured to the kit, that the apertures 5 in the ventilating device are located diametrically opposite to the apertures 2' extending through the end wall 3' of the kit.
The ventilating device also embodies an enclosing portion 10 which constitutes the perimeter of the device 4, and a ventilating portion or pocket 11 which constitutes a ventilating passage or chamber through which the airmay circulate between the apertures in the kit and those in the ventilating de vice 4. a
- By means of a covering member or ventilating device 4 of the constructipn that is osition, as indicated, the kit may be well ventilated and the direct admission of dust 01' other particles thereto may be precluded.
My invention is not limited to the specific structure that is illustrated since various modifications may be made therein'without departing from the spirit and scope of the inventionv as set forth in the appendedclaims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A ventilator and card holder for a lunch box comprising a stamping of saucer illustrated, and disposed in non-registering shape adapted to be secured to the box by a rivet through its center, the stamping being provided with a centrally depressed rectangular portion. symmetrically disposed about the center and severed from the stamping at two opposite sides to provide openings for accommodating an identification card, and being further provided with openings in the non-depressed portion through which air may pass.
2. A ventilator and card holder for a lunch box comprising a single stamping of substantially saucer shape having a central depressed rectangular portion severed from the stamping at two ends th reof to provide openings for accommodating an identification card, the disposition of the card to be such that it will be lower ban the outer surface of the remainder of the stamping.
3. A combination ventilator and card holder for use with a lunch kit, consisting of a single stamping of substantially saucer shape having a central portion displaced to substantially the plane of the rim of the stamping so that such portion and the rim permit the insertion of an identifying card, 7
and the non-depressed portion being provided with openings to permit air to pass for ventilation or the kit.
4. A ventilating device for a portable receptacle, comprising an element provided with an enclosing portion for engaging a surface of the receptacle at the'perimeter of the element, a depressed central portion engaging the same surface to permit secural thereto, and 'a pocket portion between the depressed central portion and the perimeter to serve as a passage for the circulating air.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 28th day of August, 1923.
J. LEWIS PALLEY.
