Description
ELLIOTT BRIGGS.
Improvement in Buckles.
No. 120,187, Patented 0ct.24,ma71.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIC'E.
ELLIOTT F. DRIGGS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,187, dated October 24, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLIOTT F. DRIGGS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Buckle, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a newly-constructed buckle made by me, which has for its object to dispense with sewing to attach it to clothing and other articles to which it may be applied; and also to admit of easier adjustment of the portions of the article it connects together.
Figure 1 shows a buckle with double tongues, and Fig. 2 one with single tongues.
This buckle is made of two parts or pieces of metal, B, bent, flattened, and joined together, as plainly shown in the drawing. The ordinary buckle in use upon clothing is sewed to the material by a loop around the spindle of the tongue. This method of attachment consumes considerable time, and is not firm enough to hold the buckle properly, as the stitches often give way, and especially when attached to the straps of pants, vests, 850., there is not limit enough for adjustment to fit the wearer. This is the case more particularly with ready-made clothing.
By the use of my buckle both straps can be adjusted. In cases where a buckle with single tongues is required the one represented in Fig. 2, in which the tongues a b are formed by joining the double tongues a a b b is employed.
I claim- A double buckle, constructed of two pieces, A B, united by a twist or coil of one part upon the other, substantially as specified.
E. F. DBIGGS.
