' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. WOLFF, OF SHIRLEY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO THE C. A. EDGARTON MANUFACTURING'COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
SUSPENDER-END.
SPECIFICATION forming part OfLetters Patent No. 592,97 V8, dated November 2, 1897. Applicstionled June 11, 1897. Serial No, 640,320. (No model.)
To z/ZZ whom it may concern.' 1
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. WOLFF, of Shirley, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Ends, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the end members of Suspenders, which comprise the tabs containing the buttonholes, and has for its o'bject to provide a strong and durable suspender-end adapted not' only for connection with the buttons of the trousers, but also to .support the intermediate clasp which is usually provided in appliances of this character. The invention consists in the improvements which I will now proceed to describe and, claim.
Of the accompanying. drawings, forming a part of this'specication, Figure l represents a front View of my improved suspender-end vand a portion of the suspender-strip to which it is attached. Fig. 2 represents a back View of a portion of the suspender-end shown` in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a view of one of the pieces or blanks used in making the improved suspender-end. Fig. 4L represents a section on line 4 4 of Fig. l. f i
` The same letters ofv reference indicate the same parts in allthe figures.
My improved suspender-end is composed of the buttonhole-tabs ct a, the neck b, which is lintegral with said tabs, and the clasp-supporting straps c c, which are integral with the said tabs and neck. The `said parts are ont from a single piece of leather or other suitable ma terial of substantially the, form shown in Fig.
3, the straps o c being at the inner sides of the tabs a o and at an acute angle thereto. 'The neck bis "then rounded by stitching its edges together, ftlrus adapting it to pass through the supporting-loop d, which is attached to the.
suspender-strip e. f represents a metallic socket, which connects a clasp f of any suitable construction with the free ends of the straps c c, said ends being brought together and clamped within the socket f, which thus unites the lower ends of the two strapse c. The an guiar posi tion of said straps relatively to the tabs a o enables the ends of the straps to approach each other and the clasp at the proper angle. v
two subscribing witnesses, this It will be seen that my improved suspenderend is exceedingly simple as Well as strong'and durable in construction. Y
The supporting-loopd is detachably co'n'- nected at one end to the suspender-stripby a fastening device similar to that used on gloves, duc., and lcomprising a stnd'd and a socket d2, the loop being thus adapted, to be opened to release the suspender-end.
The strapse c, made integral with the neck and tabs, connect the drawers supporting clasp-f directly with the suspender-end, so that when the latter is detached by the opening of the loop d the clasp f is also detached by the same operation.
I claimc v l. A suspendereend composed of the button hole-tabs, the neck connecting the said tabs and made integral therewith, two c1asp-sup porting straps integral with the tabs and neck,
Y and a clasp or fastening device secured to' and I uniting the lower ends of the straps, the two.4f clasp-supporting straps extending from the main part at points each side of the center of the neck and at an angle thereto.
2. The combination of a suspender-strip, a suspenderend-supporting loop thereon adapted 'to be opened, a suspender-end corn prising buttonhole-tabs, a neck connecting said tabs and made integral therewith, said neck being formed to engage the loop, two
clasp-supporting straps integral with the tabs Y and neck, and a clasp secured toand uniting the lower ends of the straps, said clasp and the suspender-end being attachab'le and def tachable to and from 'the suspender-strip and "aS One part, the two clasp-supporting straps extending from the main partat points each' A side of the center of the neck and at an angle thereto.
In testimony whereof I have' signed 'my name to this specification, in the presence of 1st day of June, A. D. 1897.
CHARLES w. woLFE.
