BOTTLE AND CLOSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Application filed May 3, 1916. Serial No. 95,191.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. Nnw'rorna citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Marais, in the county of Cook and State of Minnesota, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Bottles and Closures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which 1t appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements 1n bottles and closures therefor.
The object of the invention is to prov de a bottle or container of novel configuration which is adapted to contain poison that could be easily distinguished from the bottles or containers now in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closure for said bottle or container of novel construction, that would be'efl'ectively locked, and the opening of the same rendered difiicult, thereby eliminatlng persons or a person from using the contents of the bottle unintentionally.
A further object of this invention is to improve the construction of poison bottles, or containers, and to provide a simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive structure of this character in which is embodied a novel bottle and locking cap therefor.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my improved bottle or container showing the cap and locking ring in section, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my bottle and closure assembled, Fig. 3 is a. vertical sectional view through the closure and cap of the bottle, Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view of the locking ring, and Fig. 5 is a view of my closure applied to a can or other container with the cap and ring omitted.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the novel configuration of the bottle or container body which is cubical in shape, having an exterior screw threaded neck 2 formed thereon, the upper portion of the neck being reduced as at 3 forming a shoulder 4, the reduced portion 3 being exteriorlv screw threaded and its threads being arranged in opposite direction to the threads of the enlarged portion of the neck.
The locking ring 5 is adapted to be interiorly screw-threaded as at 6, and threaded upon the enlarged portion of the neck the outer face of said ring being roughened as at 7 to facilitate the ready removal ofthe same from the neck 2.
A cap 8 having a downwardly depending annular flange 9 and provided on its under face with an annular sleeve 10, which sleeve is provided with interior threads 11 and exterror threads 12, the interior threads fitting the exterior threads of the reduced portion of the neck, the lower edge of the sleeve resting upon the shoulder 41: to limit the downward movement of the same. The exter or threads are adapted to receive the interior threads of the locking ring for holdmg the cap in locked position upon the neck of the bottle or container, thereby rendering the same difficult in removal and eliminating the contents of the bottle being used unintentionally.
Mounted centrally by the cap 8 is a ring 13 which is secured through the same by a lug 14, permitting the bottle or container to be supported upon a nail or the like if desired, when in use.
In use, the bottle or container is fitted, and the locking ring is threaded on the enlarged portion of the neck, the cap is then screw threadedly fitted upon the reduced portion of the neck, its edges resting upon the shoulder to limit the downward movement of the same, the locking ring is then screwed upon the exterior threads of the sleeve of the cap and portions of the locking ring being inclosed by the downward depending fiange of the cap, thereby rendering the removal of the cap difficult and giving a sufficient warning that the bottle or container contains poison.
It is understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the construction.
What is claimed is:
1. A bottle or container comprising a body having an enlarged exterior screw threaded neck, the upper portion of said neck being reduced and provided with threads arranged in opposite direction to the threads on the enlarged neck, a locking ring interiorly threaded fitted upon the enlarged portion of the neck, a cap having a downwardly depending flange, an annular sleeve formed centrally on the under side of said cap, said sleeve provided with interior and exterior threads the interior threads of the sleeve fitting the exterior threads of the reduced portion of the neck, said locking ring adapted to engage the exterior threads of the sleeve for firmly holding the cap in position upon the bottle neck.
- 2. A device of the class set forth including a body having an enlarged exterior screw threaded neck, the upper portion of said neck being reduced and provided with exterior threads arranged in opposite directions to the threads on the enlarged neck, a cap having a peripheral downwardly de pending flange, an annular sleeve formed on the under side of said cap, at spaced distance from the inner face of said flange, said sleeve being interiorly and exteriorly screw threaded, the interior threads adapted to fit the exterior threads of the reduced portion of the neck for holding said cap thereon, and a locking sleeve adapted to engage the exterior threads of the sleeve and the threads of the enlarged neck portion to hold the cap against accidental removal, and a supporting ring carried centrally by said cap. s
3. A bottle of the class described comprising a body, an exterior screw threaded neck formed on said body, the upper portion of said neck being reduced and provided with exterior threads, a cap having a depending sleeve provided with exterior and interior threads, the interior threads fitting the exterior threads of the reduced portion of the neck, and a locking ring engaging the exterior threads of the sleeve and neck for firmly holding the cap upon the bottle neck,
the threads on said reduced portion of the Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
