Be it known that I, Roan-mos S. SIMHAN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Birmingham, inthe county of Jefierson and ,5 State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in.Devices for Holding Sheet-Music, of which the following is pecification. I This invention relates to improvementsin devices for holding sheet music and has particular application to a device for holding sheet music upona piano or analogous musical instrument.

In carrying out the present invent-ion, it is my purpose to provide a deviceof theclass described whereby the sheet music may be held upon the piano or-similar instrument within convenient rea'ch of the performer and in such manner as toeliminate the accidental turning of the music sheet or the displacement of the composition from the instrument.

It is also my purpose to provide a holder "for sheet music which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efliciency and durability,'whiclrmay be manufactured and marketed at small cost and which will hold the sheetmusic securely'in place-upon the instrument being played.

With thev above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement ofeparts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope'of the claimf In the accompanying drawings; Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a-piano showing myimproved sheet music holder in place thereon. Fig. 2 isa front elevation of the same, thesheet holder being shown in open position. Fig. 3 isa longitudinal sectional view through the supporting means forthe sheet holder. Fig. 1 is a sectional view'through the sheet holder. Fig. 5 is-a similar view taken at right an les toFig. at.

Referringnow to the drawings in detail, 1 designates an upright piano or similar musical instrument. Arranged across the top of the piano-1 is-asupporting rod 2 comprising outer and inner'telescoplng sections 50 3 and 4 respectively. The outer end-of the section 4- is downturned as at 5 and equipped with a clamping screw 6, while secured to. the

outer end of the section 3 and depending therefrom is a clampinglug 7 equipped with a clamping screw 8. The inner end portion of the section 3carries a set screw 9 adapted the frame 20. In practice,

to engage the adjacent portion of the inner section 1 to hold the sections 3 and 1 in adjusted relation. hen the supporting-rod 2 is arranged across the top of the pianothe downturned end 5 engages the'back of the piano while the clamping lug 8 engages the front of the-piano. The sections 2- and .1 are drawn togetherin order to hold the end 5 and the lug 7 in engagement with the respective walls of the piano and the set screw 9 turns to lock the sections together. After this adjustment of the sections, the clamping screws 6 and S are clamped against the adjacent walls of the piano to hold the sup- 70 porting rod, securely upon the piano.

Pivoted to the outer end of the section 3 by means of a combination pivot and lock lock joint is a supporting arm 13 formed of telescoping sections let and 15. The sections of the rod 10 and the arm 13 are adapted to be locked in the desired adjusted position by any suitable means, as by the set screws illustrated in the drawings.

' While I have herein shown and described one preferred form of my invention by way of illustration, I wish it to be understood that I do not limit or. confine myself to the precise details of construction herein described and delineated, as modification and variation may be made within the scope of the claim and without departing from the spirit of the invention.

A sheet music holder comprising outside covers placed edge to edge and pivoted at their meeting edges for swinging movement, frames on the inner surfaces of said covers respectively adapted to hold the outside sheets of a musical composition upon said outside covers and having the outer' edges thereof pivoted to the outer edges of said covers, a frame hinged tothe inner edgeof one of the first-mentioned frames and capable of swinging movement, a frame cooperating with the last-mentioned frame to hold the central sheet of a musical composition and having the outer edge thereof pivoted to the outer edge of the, last-named frame, and means for holding the first-mentioned frames in engagement with the respective covers and the last-mentioned frames connected to each other.
