MUSIC-LEAF TURNER.

1' b all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE A. LEONARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Venice, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Music-Leaf Turner, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to that class of music leaf turners which are adapted to use on pianos and the like, and my object is to make a device of the class described to more easily turn a leaf of music while playing the piano and thereby lessen the loss of time, and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown described and claimed. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure l is a front elevation of my music leaf turner, as it appears when assembled ready for use, as seen looking in the direction of the arrow 1 in Figs. 2 and 3. Fig. 2 is an edge view, showing the device in place upon an upright piano. Fig. 3 is a view analogous to Fig. 2 and showing the device in place upon a Grand piano. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the base frame, the music leaf turner frame being removed. Fig. 5 is a rear view of the music leaf turner as seen looking in the direction of the arrow 5 in Figs. 2 and 3. Fig. 6 is a detail of the hinge for hingedly holding the music leaf turner frames together. Fig. 7 is a rear V18W of the adjustable supporting clamp. Fig. 8 is a view analogous to Fig. 1, showing a sheet of music clamped in place. Fig. 9 is an enlarged vertical section on the line 99 of Fig. 8 and taken looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 10 is an enlarged vertical fragmentary detail, taken upon the same plane as Fig. 9. Fig. 11 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal sectional detail taken upon the lines 11-11 of Figs. 9 and 10. Referring to the drawings in detail the base frame A is removably secured. to the section B and the turner frames are hinged to the base frame A and the section B. The turner frame sections C C and D D are joined together by a top hinge F and a bottom hinge F The sections C C and D D are held in place by clips L L which allow of lateral movement when the device is to be folded up.

The flat springs H H are riveted to the back of the frames C C and are curved around over the clips G G and pivotally secured thereto to form snaps to hold the music in place.

A hinge bracket N is secured to the rigid bracket E riveted to the lower edge of the base frame A, and adapted to receive the pintle of the lower hinge F The frames C C and D D are hingedly connected by the hinges F F to form the turner frame.

The spring clamp Q encircles the section B and one end is bent upwardly to form the pintle Q and the upper hinge F of the turner frame rests upon this pintle.

The back part Q of the spring clamp Q forms a clamp as shown in Fig. 2, to hold the music turner in upright position by means of a thumb screw M which extends through the eye Q in the spring clamp Q and through the slot Q of section B. The thumb screw M extends through the base frame A and section B and is tightened at the required height to hold said sections rigidly together.

The parts J J of corrugated rubber secured between the base frame A and the bracket E are provided for the purpose of protecting the piano from being scratched and also to hold the music turner from slipping when in place.

The curved arms P P form buffers and are riveted to the base frame A and have rubber tips to engage the turner frame to prevent said frame from swinging back against the piano.

The metal clamp O is bent around section B and then curved around-part way on both sides of the base frame A for the purpose of holding said base frame and the section B together.

The invention when not in use can be f ld b lifting the turner frame from the hinge bracket N and the pintle Q of the spring clamp Q. The turner frame may be folded together by sliding the metal clips L L inwardly. The metal clamp O is moved upwardly into the section B and by loosening the thumb screw M the section B will slide sideWise parellel With the base frame A and then the thumb screw is tightened to hold them together. The buffers P P may be folded inwardly on the part A, thus making; the device compact When out of use.

The upper edge of the bracket E is bent outwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 8, to form a rest for sheets of music that are to be played in turn. Said sheets resting upon the bracket E against the base A, under the turner frame, so that the player may conveniently take one sheet at a time and place it upon the turner frame to be played.

The operation is as follows:

The player selects a piece of music from the bracket E and places the start and finish open upon said bracket and the inside double leaflet upon the brackets I I of the turner frame, under the clips G G and K. The player then grasps the left Wing of the turner frame and swings it over the right thereby exposing" the start of the piece upon the bracket E. This part is played and then the player swings said left Wing back to reveal the next part, the part upon the right Wing is played and then the player turns said right Wing to reveal the finish of the piece upon the bracket E.

Single sheets of music may be placed upon the right wing of the turner and held by the clips G and K and r versed by turning the right Wing over upon the left.

I have constructed a device of this class of paper fiber and I prefer to make the entire device of this material in order to make it as light as possible.

I claim:

A music leaf turner comprising a base frame, a support extending upwardly from said base frame, a pintle carried by said support, a hinge bracket mounted upon said frame, and a music carrying turner frame hingedly mounted upon said pintle and a.

hinge bracket, said turner frame comprising tWo sections hingedly connected together and adapted to be independently operated from one side to the other to reverse said music.
