IMPROVEMENT IN ORNAMENTING LEATHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,291, dated September 26, 1871.
To all whom 'it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LOUIS WOLFSON, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Mode of Ornamenting Leather or the Soles of Shoes, and do hereby declare the saine tO be fully described, as follows In carrying out my invention I cover with a thin coating of beeswax the sole or leather surface to be Ornamented, after which, with a hot iron or a heated die, Imark or print on the waxed surface the ligure or figures, device Or devices,
`that may be desirable to effect the Ornamentation. The heated iron or die changes the color of the wax to a dark brown, and sets the Wax into the leather so as tO permanently x the color. Finally, the whole surface so treated is to be polished or burnished with a polishing device or burnishing-tool, after which it will present a pleasing appearance, and, if desirable, may be varnished. ornamenting the Soles Of shoes, Or the backs' and covers of books, or various other articles of leather.
