BROWN, citizens of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use- .ful Improvements in Brush-Handle Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description 0 the invention, such as will enable other skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in brush handle holders and is particularly ada ted to be used in connection with the ordinary type of scrubbing brush.

The object of the invention is to provide a brush handle holder which can be ap lied to brushes of various sizes, which wil be simple, strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture, efiicient and reliable in operation, and one which will be well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a front elevation of an ordinary type of scrubbing brush ha ing ap lied thereto a device constructed in accor ance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing the opened position of the holder in dotted lines; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1,

The preferred embodiment of this invention comprises a cylindrical shaft 1 preferably of wood, but which may be made of any other suitable material, a relatively fixed jaw 2, and a relatively movable jaw 3. The fixed jaw -2 is composed of a pairof substantially quadrant shaped metal plates 4 arrange in parallel planes and in coincident relation at the extremities of the shaft 1. Secured to the outer edges of the plates 4 at their lower ends is a metal strip 5, the latter being provided with a laterally extending flange 6. Depending below this flange 6 at each end thereof is an arm 7, the lower ends of which are turned inwardly and pointed to form a pair of claws 8.

The movable 'aw 3 is constructed similarly to the fixed jaw 2, being composed of a air of substantially quadrant shaped paral el plates 9 arranged in coincident relation at the ends of the shaft 1, said plates 9 extending in opposite directions from the plates 4 and having their inner edges overa ping those of the latter. The outer edges 0 the plates 9 at the lower ends thereof are connected by a strip 10, which, like the strip 5, is provided with a flange 11, depending arms 12, and inwardly projecting claws 13. The plates 4 and 9 are secured to the ends of the shaft 1 by bolts or screws 14 which pass through the upper corners of the latter into the extremities of said shaft.

Extending upwardly and backwardly from the shaft 1 intermediate the ends of the latter, is a handle 15, the lower end of which abuts the side of said shaft and is provided with a pair of straps 16 and 17 disposed on o posite sides of the handle 15. From this construction and arrangement of. parts it may be seen that the jaw 2 is thus eld rigid with respect to the handle 15 and shaft 1, while the jaw 3, not being braced, is ivoted to the ends of said shaft.

. n operation, the device is used in connectron with an ordinary scrubbin brush B, which latter is disposed and cl amped between the jaWs 2 and 3 as best seen in Fig. 2. The arms 7 and 12 contact with the side edges of the brush handle H and the claws 8 and 13 engage the under face of the latter. As the aws 2 and 3 are adjustable with respect to each other, brushes of various sizes and styles may be used in connection therewith.

Various changes in form and proportion may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention, and hence we do not wish to be limited to, the stracture herein shown and described other than that set forth in the appended claims.

We claim:

l. A brush handle holder comprising a horizontal shaft, a relatively fixed jaw secured to the ends of said shaft, a relatively movable jaw pivoted to the ends of said shaft, cooperating means carried by said jaws for adjustably clamping latter together, and a handle secured to and extendfrom said shaft.
