SANFORD W. STORMS, OF TARRYTQWN, NEW YORK.
wInDow SHADE AND CURTAIN HOLDER Application filed January 7, 1 916. Serial No. 70,851.
To all yohom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SANFORD \V. S'roRMs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Tarrytown, in the county of \Vestchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful In'iprovements in \Vindow Shade and Curtain Holders, of which the follow- This'invention relates to a combined window shade and curtain pole support and 1t hasfor its principal object the provision of a device of this character which will be simple, strong and durable and, one which will be capable of being adjustedwhereby it may properly accommodate itself to shade rollers of different lengths.
As another object in view I aim to provide a device of this character which will eliminate the necessity of unduly marring,
the window frame, incident to the necessity of applying shade rollers of different lengths to the frame.
still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a combined-shade roller bracket and curtain pole support which will include an adjustable hanger for the roller and a support for the curtain pole, co-acting with the hanger to hold the same against being accidentally shifted from its intended position and thereby positively insure retentioniof said hanger against the trunnion of the shade roller.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like reference numerals indicate similar parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a window frame showing the application of the bracket thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same. Fig.
'3 is a horizontal section taken on the' line 33 of Fig. 2. v
The combined shaderollcr support and curtain pole hanger, consists of a bracket member 1,,which is stamped from a single piece of sheet metal, provided with right 7 angular ends 22, attaching flanges 3+3 and a relatively long horizontal connecting portion 4 between the branches 2-2. This connecting portion has a longitudinal slot 5 formed therein for a purpose to be hereinafter referred to. The bracket is adapted to be secured to one side of the window frame by means of screws or sunllar fastening devices 6. -When applied in this manner, the
slotted connecting portion 4. between the branches 22 will be spacedfrom the inner Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J lie 13, 1916.
face of the window frame as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The shade roller hanger 7 is suspended from the intermediate portion 4 of the bracket and-theuppr end of said hanger ,is extended against the rear surface of said portion 4 and it is adapted tobe brought into clamping contact therewith by means of a clamping screw 8; y This screw passes through the slot 5 from the frontqof the bracket and connected with the screw is a washer 9 and. a binding orclampingnut 10.
The upper extremity of the hanger 7 and the portion of the bracket 1, are thus operatively interposed between the washer 9 and the mentioned nut '10 and by turning the screw, one may readily effect freedom of the hanger 7 relatively of the portion-4 of the bracket. and-thus permit the former to be moved to the requisite position upon said portion 4 as will be clearly' understood. It will be appreciated that I intend using the brackets in sets of two, arranging the same along the same horizontal line upon the window frame, and incident to the described construction of the bracket and its hanger, it is evident that a shade roller of any given length may be operatively accommodated without necessitating achange in the position of the bracket upon the frame.
When it is desired to adjust the shade roller formation as to permit one of the hangers to fixedly engage with the usual rectangular trunnion of the shade roller with which the ordinary tension spring of the roller is connected;
In order that the hanger 7- may be held against swinging rom the bracket, use is made of a curtain pole support 11 which consists of a horizontal shank 12 havingra screw thread 13 which may be engaged in the window frame, see Fig. 2. This shank is adapted to be passed through the receiving shoulder 14 in the hanger, and it'is preferred to provide the shank with a stop lug J Y A L L30 portion, nunns pns;-;ing through said 109mm.
