CANDY, CAKE, AND CRACKER BOX.
' 'Patented June 6, 1916.
Application led June 12, 1915. Serial No. 33,659;l
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL Rrzzor'ro, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort lVorth, in the county of Tarrant and `State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candy, Cake, and Cracker Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to an improvement in candy, cake or cracker boxes or tins and in such connection it relates more particularly to the construction and arrangement of such a box or tin.
The principal obj ect of my invention is to provide in a tin box for candy, cakes or crackers, an aperture in the front wall of the box, near its top, for the display of cakes or crackers or other articles segregated from the contents of the box and permanently exposed to view through a .glass panel covering said opening, there being a partition carried by the side and front walls of the box constituting a backing for the glass and forming therewith a chamber or compartment for the reception of that portion of the -contents of the box which are to be permanently displayed through said glass panel.l
In the carrying out of my invention the glass panel is removably supported in slides or ledges formed on the interior of the front Wall some distance above the bottom of the box. The partition forming the back of the display chamber, of which chamber the glass panel is the front, is removably supported by the side and front walls of the box.
The nature and scope of my invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in Which,-
Figure 1, is a perspective view, one cor ner being broken away, of a cake or cracker box embodying main features of my invention. Fig. 2, is a top or plan view of the same with the lid or cover partly cut away. Fig. 3, is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 4, is an enlarged top or plan view illustrating a modification wherein the partition is permanently secured to the side walls of the box.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the front and 2, 2 the side walls of a tin box or receptacle for holding cakes, crackers or the like. The box is provided with the usual lid 3 and bottom 4.v At or near the top of the front 1 of the box the wall is cut out to form an opening 5 preferably rectangular in outline, and covering the insidel of this opening is a panel 6 of glass or similar transparent or ytranslucent material. The inside of wall 1 adjacent to the sides of opening 5 is provided with slides or clips 7 and at the bott'om edge of the opening the interior of the front wall 1 isA provided with a channel piece or ledge 8. The glass panel 6 slides in the side clips 7 and is maintained 1n position to close the aperture 5 from the inside by means of these clips 7 and the channel piece 8. To the rear of the panel 6 is a partition 9 having a vertically anged bottom or base 10 andthe partition 9 has side edges which slide into channelways 11 formed in the side walls 2V of the box. The` bottom or base 10 fits into and is supported by its vertical flange in the channel piece 8 on the interior of the front wall 1 of the box. When the parts are assembled the panel 6 and partition 9 with its base 10 form a compartment open at the top of the box for the reception of a portion 12 of the contents of the box and the segregation of said portion 12 from said contents and the permanent display of said portion 12 through panel 6 at the front ofthe box. The lower portion of the front wall 1 may if desired be countersunk as at 13 to receive a paper, pasteboard or metal label 14, as well as to stiifen said front wall.
In the form of partition and box shown in Fig. 4 the sides of the partition 9 are soldered as at 15 to the interior of the sides 2a of the boxy instead of sliding in channel ways as in Figs. 1 to- 3 of the drawings.
In all forms of the invention the panel 6 being of glass or similar easily broken material is supported by the front wall 1 some distance above the bottom 4 of the box, and
thus danger o-f breakage of the panel 6 by the accidental dropping of the box is minimized. l Having thus described the nature and objects'of my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,- 1. In a box of the character described, a front Wall apertured at or near its top, a substantially transparent frangible panel supported on the interior of said wall to Iclose the aperture therein, a ledge formed on opies of this patent may be obtained for near its top in combination with channeled side walls, a'ledge formed on the interior of the wall below the aperture therein and a partition having side edges supported by the side walls of the boX, and a vertically flanged bottom removably supported in said ledge.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this spe'oiication.
. SAMUEL RIZZTTO.
