Description

Patented Aug. 22,1871.
UNITED STATES DAVID YOUNG, OF KINGSTON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN WEATHER-STRIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,418, dated August 22, 1871.
To all whom it may conce-W1.:
Be it known that I, DAVID YOUNG, of Kingston, in the county of Caldwell and in theState of Missouri, have invented certain new and usefu'l Improvements in feather-Strips 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a weather-strip, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse vertical section of a door with my weather-strip attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is an inside view of the same.
A represents a door havinga plate, B, attached at its lower end on the outer side, and extending the entire width of the door. This plate is provided with two or more vertical slots, and fastened by screws passing through said slots, so that the plate can slide freely up and down. Under the door is another plate, O, the inner edge of which is turned upward and hinged to the inner side at the lower end of the door. The outer edge of this plate O extends far enough t0 allow the plate B to rest uponit. On the inside of the door, near the inner edge, is a small railing, D, as shown, so that when the do-or is opened the plate C will be raised up by the saine and thus at the same time raise the plate B. When the door is shut the plates B and C tall down in the position shown in Fig. l. This prevents water, Src., from entering under the door, and the inner edge of the plate O being turned up catches all water that may leak through the panels and carries it out again.
Havingthus fully described my invention, wh at I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the slotted sliding plate B and the hinged plate O, having its inner edge turned upward, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of May, 1871 DAVID YOUNG. Witnesses:
J. M. HosKINsoN, D. S. BUFFER.
