OFFICE.
IRA DAVID wooLFfoF ONEONTA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,000, dated April 13, 1875; application filed March 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:.
Be it known that I, IRA D. \VOOLF, of Oneonta, Otsego county, New York, have invented a new and Improved WVindow-Sash Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
The present invention relates to a new and improved mode of fastening window-sashes and consists of a spring-bolt, which works through a hole in the sash, and enters the casing, the bolt having a peculiar stop-lug, the construction of the entire device being hereinafter more fully described.
Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of the sash and casing; and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of Fig. 1, taken on the line a: 00.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the sash. B is the casing. O is the E is the mortise or hole through the sash. F is one of a series of holes made in the casing. Gr is a metallic guideplate fastened to the outer edge of the sash, through which the end of the bolt passes. H is a plate fastened to themner edge of the sash. The bolt passes through this plate in a slot therein. I represents the cap or head of the bolt, which is bent to a right angle with the bolt, and has upon its inner side a stop-lug, J, which passes with the bolt through the slot in the plate. K is a ring or finger-piece, by means of which the bolt is withdrawn. to and surrounding the bolt, which spring bears against the plate H and has a certain degree of 'tension, which serves to force the bolt inward with a constant pressure. hen the boltis withdrawn from the casing, the end of the stop-lug J may be made to rest on the outside of the plate H, by drawing the bolt down ward, which renders the bolt inoperative. The ring or finger-piece maybe made in two parts, so that it may be turned around, if desired.
It will be seen that this bolt may be attached to either of the sashes of the window, and will hold the sashes of the window in any desired position, and fasten them so that they cannot be moved from the outside.
This sashfastener is cheap, simple, and durable, and far superior to many of the eX- pensive and complicated devices for the same purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The spring-bolt (J, having a stop-lug, J cap I, finger-piece K, and plates G and H, in combination with a suitably-recessed window-sash, for the purpose described.
IRA DAVID WOOLF.
