T'aZZ/whomz't may concern: p "."Be it known that I, OWEN WILLAMs, a ,"citizen of the United States, residing1 at Fall 7^River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in CapSetters for Fuel-Economizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cap Setters for fuel economiZer-s.
Those -fuel econoniizers used in connec tion with steam boiler.l furnaces which ein body allarge number of tubes arranged perpendicularly and products of combustioi'iv for the purpose of heating the boiler feed Water are closedf by .a lcapI or lid maintained in position by pressure from beneath. The tlues require cleaning oncev or twice a year, necessitating the replacement of the capsafter cleanino'. At present this'is a tedious and time-consumng operation. x I My "object is to "provide av simple, improved and efficient device or appliance for setting these caps by` `which they may be vmuch more rapidly setthan at present is possible so that the time and labor required are very materially reduced. lVhcre as it has heretofore required three nien about two' days to re-set the caps in an econon'iizer einplaying aboutvthree hundred ofA these caps, my improved appliance enables re-setting' to be accomplished by two men in about onehalf a day; y
lThe invention consists of a'base of improved orrnna novel-yoke, a Acam lever cooperating therewith, and a bolt of improved construction which can be rapidly and easily applied to the cap an'd the yoke. Manipu- `lation of the lever causes lifting of the yoke land the elevationv of the bolt and cap so that the latter is brought to the top oi the tube where it will remain, due to the' usual pressure.
In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 is a perspective of the appliance; Fig. 2, a side elevation with parts kof the yoke and hase in section, dotted elevation of the parts by the cam lever; Fig. 3, `a plan view With the parts in the position shown in Fig. 1,-the bolt ted; Fig. 4, a detail of the bolt; and Fig. 5,V a section on line 5-5, Fig. 4. The base 1 is provided Withan opening 2 of a size adapting it toxreceive the cap 3 which is to be set, thfe being provided 'a Specification of Letters Patent.

into the opening 2. Rising are ears or lugs 5 and 6. arms 8 pivoted to the ears provided with a slot l0 and with grooves 1l. The slot 10 is in line with the slot 1 to permit convenient entry or re nioval of the elevating bolt The bolt 12 1s provided i fb. a head whose under edge is rounded or beveled at le! 'to seat in the grooves 11 `when the bo in position. Lower down ther-eis provided r "lfi i* l to prevent the bolt trom lincolnlsplaced upwardly beyond a certain limited extent.
SlOt l leading from the base yoke 7 has its The lower end ot' the bolt has a head 1li and is oi: general rhomboidal 'torni in cross tion, as shown at 1'4". The cap 3 is formed to admit the part 17 when the holt is advanced transversely in the direction of the length of the slots l and 10 and thereafter, upon` turning the bolt on its vlongitudinal axis to an extent substantially equal to ninety l egrees, the part 17 engages the cap and the head 13 then vhas rounded or beveled part 1l resting in the notches ory grooves 11. The parte are then in condition for elevation ot' the cip. Il. simple, convenient andeasily operable means-for elevating the yolre comprises a earn lever 18 pivoted at 19 to the lugs 6 and having its cam 2G disposed under the tip olf the yoke 7. in practic the base 1 Will about sii;-
inches long, more or less, and oit nearly the same'width. and the lever 18 tivo feet, more or less, in length, sothata very powerful leverage may be obtained 'with little ellort.
Jftcr one cap has been elevated or set, it
' will so remain by the pressure and the' bolt 12 is then turned to release it troni the yoke `and it then may `be Vdiseinaaged `Jfrom the cap and made to engage another cap and again to engage the yolre 'for the ne" of thc'sue ceeding cap. "llie removabilityotthe' bolt permits it to be readily engined with the cap and then with the yoke, 'y
Having' thus described my invention, what Ll claimas neuf and' desire to .-ecure by 'Let ters Patent,is:-` j V l 1. ln a cap setter, the combination with a base and a movable yoke, the base and yoke having slots or entry miening's. oi a ren-mvable bolt adapted to enter the slots and ing' means to the cap and the yoke, and means for elevatingthe yoke and with it the holt-.
i2. "in a. cap setter, the combination with a base and a movable yoke, the base and ll. l)
try opening. of Aa yoke vhaving a laterally ex-T tending slot or entry openingthe arms of the yoke being pivoted to the base, the aforesaid slots or entry openings being substantiall)7 in line` a bolt arranged to be intro-` duced laterally into the rslots or entry openings, said bolt having means to engage the yoke and rap when turned, and means for raising and lowering the yoke and With it,
the bolt.
4. In a cap setter, the combination with a base having a laterally extendingslot or entry opening, of a yoke having a laterally lextending slot or entry opening, the arm's of the yoke being pivote-d to the base, 'Elfe aforesaid slots or entry openings being SbS-lntially in line, a bolt arranged to be introduced laterally into the slots or entry opeiings, said bolt having means to engage the yoke and cap when turned, and a cam lever pivoted to the base and arranged to engage with the free portion oic the yoke to elevate the latter.
In testimony whereof'I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
