Atmospheric gas burners.- In a gas-burner for cooking purposes, a gas tap 10 is connected to a plate 13, which regulates an air inlet and on which is mounted a guide-bar, which effects an up-and-down movement of the burner head, so that, as the gas-tap is opened, the gas and internal air supplies are increased and the burner head raised. In one form, the air-regulating plate 13 covers an air inlet 13a on the underside of a flattened mixing-tube 1. A preferably perforated plate 6 forming the burner top is mounted on a vertically slidable air-supply tube 3 connected to a lever 4, one end of which rests on a bevelled bar 14 on the plate 13. Various burner caps may be used such as a cap having slits of different sizes or a ring of protected holes or a bell-shaped cap having apertures of different sizes in its cylindrical surface. The burner head may be closed at the top and have a number of side holes, the size of which can be regulated by a ring fixed on a fork, operated by the lever 4. This ring may be provided with air inlets. The burner head 6 may be conical as shown in Fig. 10, and formed with holes 8 which can be regulated in size by a comcal ring provided with air passages 18, or the burner head may be constructed with two slits in its wall and provided with an adjustable cap having a notched edge. In all cases, the burner holes are protected from any liquid that may boil over, and by-passes are provided in the body of the burner.
