T0 @ZZ/cham t1/may cof/tecra:I Y Beit knownthat I, FRANK JI Piccina citizen of theUnited States,r`esid'i ng=at the city andco'unty of Francisco and, State of California, have invented' a new an'dalse-- l' GasBurners, ofwhich the following is a 'sp' eciicationgv o' f'- This invention relates to agas burner and especially to'j aburner ofthe Bunsen'type. Onel of the objects of the present vinvention is to provide a Ysimple substantialgasburner i' ofthe Bunsen type and especially-a burner which is Vadapted for' enclosed a heaters, bake ovens, furnaces andthe like. Y' Y o- Another objectoflthe invention 'is to provide: a; structure'whereby complete :combustion ofthe gases discharging from* the burner is insured; further to provide'means for regulating air admitted to supportombustion and also to`direjct lthe airin'such a manner that it will passthrough the combustion zone before"enteringv the furnace chamber proper.
Further objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. l is a cross-section of the burner taken on line l-l, Fig. 3.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the burner.
Fig. 3 is a central vertical longitudinal section taken on line 3-3, Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A indicates a furnace of any suitable construction interior of Vwhich is formed al combustion chamber 2. Connected with said chamber is a discharge flue 8, and formed in the bottom ofthe furnace is an air admitting plurality of perforations or openings 6.
Mounted below the plate 5 and spaced with relation thereto is agas burner generally .indicated at B. This burner consists of a nozzle 7, a mixing casing 8, an elbow 9, and a mixing tube l0. Turnably mounted on the nozzle 7 is a damper plate ll, and adapted to regulate the flow of gas through the nozzle is a valve l2 of suitable construction. Formed in the mixing tube l0 is a plurality of discharge openings 14, and forming aclosure for one end of the tube is a stopper 15, here illustrated as a plug.
There are two rows of discharge openings aeciflcati-oqf Letterslatentl Patented Marf14y1922. n nppiivain ered'- Mar'c'h 25, i920; seial'na'eesgas; o 5' i 7 14:vv formed' in fthe' tube 10 in the` present "in-y stance, andibyjreferring to Figs. Y l, 2 and 3, it willlbe seenthat said openings align with the .perforationsl 6 formedl inthe plate'.
'Ihis'is of great importance as ajet'actionisV formedbetween the openings`14 and G'when the gasl discharges therethrough and an induced fiow offairV is inthis manner obtained, which materially improves combustion withinthe chg'tfmber2.l l
".ThA jburn'er`7here*sho-wn Vis Vparticularly l t adaptedifo'r enclosed heaters, bake' ovens, furnacespan'd 'fthe like."V The heater or fur-j nacejjhere 'shown is providedwitha single airlintake' opening 4 and thi'siis coveredr by Y the -platef as previously sta-ted.'n :All airr adrn'itte'dtothe furnace mnst 'therefore pass the volume of air admitted at this point being regulatedby adjustingv the position of the damper in the usual manner. The mixture of air' and gas obtained by this actionpasses through the tube 10 and finally discharges through the burneropenings 14 formed therein. A second' jet Y action is formed when the gas discharges upwardly through the perforations in the plates 5 and n an induced flow or a secondary mixing action opening t. Forming a cover for said opening is a plate 5, andfformed 1n sald plate is a of gas and air is thus obtained' which materially increases the eiiicie'ncy of the-burner.
In actual practice it is found that the heat rather white in color. This flame produces i more heat than the blue flame otherwise formed and I think this is due to the perl fectmixture of air and gas obtained by the induction. action produced bythe gas dis-v charging through perforations in the plate,
and as said perforations are the only openings through which air can be admitted, it can readily be seen that all air must pass through the combustion area before it can enter the furnace chamber proper'.
. While circular openings are here shown as.
formed both in the burner and theperforated plate 5, I wish itY understood that slotlike or other shaped openings may be eniployed. The important feature to. be observed however in constructing a burner of this characterv is first of all a correct spacing between the plate and the burner proper, and secondly, provision of openings in Vthe perforated plate which are considerablyk larger in area than theV discharge openings in the burner. Othervariatlons 1n design and construction may obviously be resorted to Within the scope of the appended claim. l also wish it understood that the materials and nish of the several parts employed may Y besuch as the experience and judgment of bottom of the casing, a discharge opening formed in the casing for the escape of products of combustion, said discharge opening and said rectangular opening being the only openings communicating with the combustion chamber, a rectangular shaped plate forming a closure for the bottom opening, two rows of perforations formed in said plate, a pipe disposed below said plate.V and spaced therefrom,y said lpipe lbeing. parallel withv the longitudinal axis of the plate, two rows of perforations formed n thek pipe and aligning with theperforations in the plate, lugs formed on the pipe engaging the bottorn of the plate and determining the spar` ing between kthe pipe'and the plate, means forsecuring the lugs withrelati'on to the plate tosupportY the pipe,an'd means for delivering a combustible mxtureof air and gas to the pipe, saidmiXture, discharging through the. perforations in the pipe and,
upwardly into the combustion chamber through the perforations inthe plate.
In testimony whereof Ifhave hereunto set hand in the presence .of two subscribing Witnesses.
