Description

c. H. FALLS.
BRIDLE BIT.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 22. 1915.
Patented Apr. 11,
'UIT Z STAT PTEN CHARLES H. FALLS, 0F NASHUA, IOWA.
BRIDLE-BIT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. FALLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashua, in the county of Chickasaw and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle-Bits; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bridle bits and the object in view is to generally improve upon and render more efficient devices of this nature and consists essentially in a frictionless bit, having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shownin the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bit embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional View through the same.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a snaffle from which a rod B projects, the inner face of the snaffle about said rod being recessed as at C. The check piece or button D has a boss D projecting from the outer face thereof and adapted to engage and turn in said recess and has a hollow tubular portion E, shouldered as at E, and one end F is reduced as shown and over which tube a covering of leather H, or other suitable material, is placed. A second button, designated by letter N, has a central opening 0 and the inner convexed surface of the button N has a flaring bushing Q, adapted to fit over the reduced endof the tubular portion and over which one end of the leather covering passes.
Itwill be noted that the bushing R projecting from the outer face of the button N has its end flush with the end of the contracted part of the tubular portion and is adapted to engage a recess S formed in the inner face of the snaflle T, the said recess having a threaded aperture in its bottom Specification of Letters Patent.

for the reception of the threaded end of said rod. A suitable washer J is interposed between the bushing R and the wall of the recess provided for its reception.
Each button has an elongated loop K pro-- jecting from the edge thereof and a smaller loop K, spaced apart, and a cheek strap K 'is adapted to be fastened to each loop K,
bit for track use, also by the employment of the connectingstrap the bit may be used for any kind of snaffle.
What I claim to be new is:
1. A bit comprising snaffles recessed upon the inner faces thereof, a rod projecting from the bottom of the recess in one snaffle, a cheekpiece having an integral tubular projection upon its inner face mounted upon said rod, the other snaffle having a threaded aperture with which the end of said rod engages, a second cheekpiece journaled on the end of said tubular projection and having a boss upon its outer face engaging a recess in the last mentioned snaffle, and a covering for said. tubular projection. 2. A bit comprising snafHes, recessed upon the inner faces thereof, a rod having a threaded end and secured to. one snaffle and projecting from the recess therein, a cheek piece having a boss upon the outer face thereof and ournaled in a recess in the snaffle and having a tubular portion projecting from its inner concaved face,
said tube having a reduced portion, a second cheek piece having bosses upon the opposite faces thereof and adapted to'fit over said. reduced portion of the tube, the second snaflle being fitted about a central aperture therein adapted to engage the threaded end of the rod and provided with a recess for the rehaving bosses upon the outer faces thereof, In testimony whereof I hereunto aihx my journaled in the recesses of said snaffies, a signature in presence of two Witnesses. covering for said rod, cheek straps for at- CHARLES H FALLS tachment to correspondingloops upon the cheek pieces, and a connecting strap fas- Witnesses:
