Description
PATENTED FEB. 5; 1907.

OVERGHEGK RUNNER AND GAG HOLDER.
APPLIGATION FILED MAR. 19 1906.
wi/tmooeo a Ww HUGH M. APPLEGATE, OF UNIONVILLE, MISSOURI.
OVERCHECK-RUNNER AND GAG- HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 5, 1907.
Application filed March 19, 1906. Serial No. 306,895.
To 00% whm'rz, it 'III/CLI/ concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH M. APPLEGATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Unionville, in the county of Putnam and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overcheck-Runners and Gag-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in combined overcheck-runner and gag-holder for bridles and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a simple and convenient device to be secured to the crownpiece of a bridle, which may be readily utilized as a loop for an overdraw-checkrein and a support or holder for a suspended gag-runner for a side-draw checkrein.
Another object is to provide a device of this character with or without a roller which will permit the overdraw-checkrein to move freely within the loops. The roller in the end for the gag-holder is to prevent the wearing on the gag-strap and also makes the same adjust itself more perfectly.
Another object is to provide devices of this character with rollers which will permit the overdraw-checkrein and the supporting-str ap for the gag-runner to move freelywithin the loops provided for these purposes.
These and other objects are attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bridle provided with my improved overcheck-runner and gag-holder when used with an overdrawcheck. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the bridle provided with my improved overcheck-runner and gag-holder when used with a side-draw checkrein, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of my improved overcheck-runner and gag-holder secured to a portion of a crown-piece of a bridle.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of my invention, a designates the crown-piece of a bridle, which may be of anysuitable construction, and I) are the overdraw-checkreins. Secured at opposite sides of the center of the crown-piece are my improved combined overcheck-runners and gag-holders 1, each consisting of a metal device having a recess 2, forming a loop for the overdraw-checkreins, said recess having journaled therein a roller 3 to permit the overdraw-checkrein to move freely therein. At opposite sides of the loop bosses 4 are provided, through which rivets, screws, or other fastening devices 5 are passed to secure the device firmly to the crown-piece. Formed integral with the overdraw check-loop is an extension 6, having a loop formed therein, said loop being disposed at one side of the longitudinal center of the overdraw checkloop and provided with a loop or roller 8.
Referring to Fig. 2, a gag-runner strap a is passed through the loop 7 ,and around the roller 8, and at the lower end of said strapa gag-runner 9 is connected thereto to accommodate a side checkrein 10.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that by the use of my combined overdraw checkloop and gag-runner support either type of checkrein may be used with facility. The change from one to the other can be made quickly, and it will be seen that the device operates perfectly for either purpose.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A combined overcheck-runner and gagholder support comprising a bar having a I recess therein to form a loop for an overdrawcheckrein, bosses at the opposite sides of said loop, fastening means passed through said bosses to secure the device to the crown-piece, and a loop formed on the end of said bar for a strap to support a gag-runner for a side-draw checkrein.
2. The herein-described overcheck-rumier and gag-holder comprising a bar for attachment to the crown-piece of a bridle having its upper portion recessed on its inner side for the reception of an oVerdraW-checkrein, an my hand in presence of two subscribing Witantifriction device in said recess to keep the I nesses. checkrein out of contact with the crown-piece and having its lower portion terminating in a 1 HUGH APPLEGATE 5 loop to receive a gag-runner-supporting Witnesses:
