SHAFT-TUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 627,581, dated June 27, 1899.
Application filed February's), 1899. Serial No. 705,032. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHANIEL W. HUN TER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Harness-Tugs, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation view of parts embodyingsaidimprovement. Fig. 2 isarear view of the parts which are shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a View of most that is shown in Figs. 1 and 2 in sectional elevation on the plane denoted by the dotted line X X The object and purpose of the improvement is the production of a harness-tug for use as a part of a harness for a horse or the like, adapted and intended to relieve and ease the shock and concussion which the movement of the wagon-shafts puts upon the back of the horse when a harness of ordinary construction is used.
In the accompanying drawings the letter a denotes the tug which receives the wagonshaft. Ordinarily such tugs are of leather,
but this is by preference metallic.
The letter Z) denotes a portion of the wagonshaft in the hold of the tug.
The letter 0 denotes a spring. It is carried in the case d. The tug is adapted to slide, vibrate, or reciprocate upon the spring-case through the medium of the clamps e and f,
r the former of which encircles the body of the spring-case and the latter of which encircles onlya part of that body and rests upon the top of the spring, by which means the spring is made to support the tug.
The spring-case is attached-to the girth of the harness by proper means-as,for instance,
by the strap g.and the case is also adapted to be attached to the saddle of the harness by any proper means-as, for instance, through the medium of the strap 72.
It will be readily understood that as the wagon-shaft is supported by the spring through the medium of the tug its jolts and concussions will be relieved and alleviated by the action of the spring, with resulting
