Description
H. M. DANIEL. DRAWER ATTACHMENT FOR BEQSTEADS.
APPLICATIpN FILED FEB. 25, I915.
Patented Mar. 28, 1916.
ATTORNEYS ends of which respectively bolts-B, extending HOMER m. DANIEL. or GULFPOBT, MISSISSIPPI.
DRAWER ATTACHMENT FOB BEDSTEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, HOMER M. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Gulfport, in the county of Harrison and State of Mississippi, have invented a certain new'and useful Improvement in Drawer Attachments for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
My present invent on relates generally to drawer attachments for bedsteads, and more particularly to means whereby drawers may be suspended in slidable relation beneath a bedstead frame or similar structure, for the purpose of economizing in room space, my object being to provide simple and inexpensive means forming guides for the slidable reception of drawers beneath a bedstead frame and the like, together With a cover plate for effectively covering and holding the drawersin closed position beneath the frame from which they are suspended.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention-Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a bed, below the frame of which drawers are slidably supported in accordance with my invention, the drawers being shown partly open; Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of one of the guide bars, and one of its supporting brackets removed.
Referring now to these figures, the bed is generally indicated at A, andas usual inpludes among the parts'of its frame, paral-' lel longitudinal side bars A. In accordance with my invention I provide supporting brackets B, the upper and lower angular extend in outward and inward directions, 'these ends being indicated at b-- and I), the former being adapted to engage .upon the parallel side bars A, and the latter being adapted to receive the ends of parallel strips or bars C,
which form the drawer-guides.
The brackets B are spaced apart upon the side bars A of *the bed,'in order to maintain the guide bars or strips C in spaced parallel relation, and these brackets B may be secured, in such position by clamping through their upper angular ends I) and adapted for engagement with portions of the side" bars A, as clearly seen by reference to Figs. 2 and 4.
The drawers, of which there are two as shown at D, are provided with side strips .ting the or runners d engaging upon the guides C.
These drawers D are further provided withhandles d at their opposite ends, being movable from closed to .open position, that is from a position beneath the bed frame to positions extending beyond the bed frame, and toward either side-thereof, by virtue of the particular manner in which they are supported. Furthermore, the drawers 'D,.
which as usual are open at their tops, are covered in closed position by? means of a cover plate E for each drawer, the said cover plates being extended transversely of and beneath the bed frame above the drawers, and having depending portions e at their opposite ends, and angular supporting brackets e, loosely disposed upon the side bars A or portions thereof, in order to permit vertical movement of the said cover plates with respect to the drawers. Thus when the drawers are in closed-position, the depending end portions 6 of the cover plate engage the forward and rear ends of the drawers inorder to prevent accidental displacement of the drawers. "When-the drawer is to be opened in either direction, the re-.
spective end of its particular cover plate is raised asind-icated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, permitting the drawer to be drawn outwardly at the desired side of the bed frame. From this it will be seen that the drawers are supported beneath. the bed frame by simple, inexpensive and effective means permitdrawers to be opened toward either side of the bed frame, together with the cover plate, permitting'the drawers to be Patented Mar. 28, 1916.
Application filed February 25, 1915. Serial No. 10,586. r
held in closed positions and effectively covered while beneath the bed frame.
I claim 1. The combination. of an elevated supporting frame having parallel bars, of drawer guides suspended from and below the said bars, drawers slidable in theguldes below the frame, and cover plates suspended from the said supporting frame above the drawers and movable vertically with respect tothe latter, said cover plates having" engaging portions to engage and lock the drawers against movement when the cover plates are lowered into position on the drawers.
2. The combination of an elevated supporting frame having parallel bars, of drawer guides suspended from and below the said bars, drawers slidable in the guides below the frame, and cover plates suspended from the said supporting frame above ers and movable vertically with respect to the drawers and movable vertically with rethe iatter, angular brackets carried by the 15 spect to the latter, said cover plates having ends of the said cover plates and engaging depending forward and rear ends movable portions of the said side bars, to permit 5' to lockingly engage the forward and rear such vertical movement of the cover plates, ends of the drawers in closed position be and means carried by the cover plates for neath the frame. engagement with the drawers in closed posi- 2o 3.
