To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN L. I-IARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nora Springs, in the county of Floyd and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to display racks and has special reference to a display frame which is so formed as to possess a spring framework, and at the same time, be very light so as to be capable of being moved from place to place without any great inconvenience.

Another object of this invention is the production of an efficient display channel, and means .for attaching the display articles to the display channel.

With these and other objects in View this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. V

In the drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of the display rack showing one of the channels in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a structure disclosed in Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is an end view of the display rack. Fig. 4: is a central vertical section taken through the display frame. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective of the display channel. Fig. 6 is a transverse section through the lower end of the display channel. Fig. 7 is a transverse section through the upper end of the display channel. Fig. 8 is a detail. perspective of one of the clamping members adapted to hold the display article within the display channel. Fig. 9 is a section taken on line 99 of Fig. 3.

By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the present device consists of a metallic frame comprising a pair of vertically extending angle members 1 which members are supported by means of angle feet 2. These feet 2 are braced by means of angle braces 35, and extend outwardly from the end members 1 to such a distance as to allow the display channels to be swung outwardly without causing the frame to tilt over. The upper ends of the end members 1 are connected by means of a transversely extending brace member. 4 which is of an angle structure in cross section, and the upper end of the vertically extending members 1 are also connected by means of an auxiliary brace 5. A lower angle member 6 connects the lower ends of the vertically extending members 1, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4. The lower brace member 6, as well as the upper brace member 4 is braced in engagement with the vertically extending A members 1 by means of diagonally extending brace members 7. These vertically extending members 1 are braced longitudinally by means of tie members 8, which tie members have theirends secured to the vertically extending members near the upper and lower ends respectively. A spacing member 9 is carried by each vertically extending member 1 and engages the tie member for greatly reinforcing the vertically extending members 1. A central supporting leg 10 is positioned centrally of the main frame and is provided with an angle foot 11 for holding the frame in a vertical position.

The upper brace member l is reinforced by means of a tie member 12, which has its ends secured to the OPPQSltQGl'ldS of the brace member 4, andis spaced therefrom at the center by means of a spacing member 13 p which is provided with a plurality of oppositely bent fingers 14: for straddling the tie member 12. The upper brace member 4, and the lower brace member 6 is provided with a plurality of spaced apertures for receiving the bearing ends 15 of the article supporting frames.

The article supporting frames comprise a pair of vertically extending rods 16 which are connected together by means of transversely extending rods 17, the transversely extending rods 17 being secured to the vertically extending rods by means of suitable T and elbowjoints.

A display rack member or frame is carried with the article supporting frame, just described, and this rack or frame comprises a pair of vertically extending clamping sect-ions 18, which are substantially U-shaped in cross section. The frame is also provided with a plurality of trans versely extending members, which connect the vertically extending members 18, and the vertically extending members are braced by means of intermediate brace members 19. A central vertically extending brace member 20 is secured to the frame and braces the transversely extending members 19.

The article or fabric desired to be displayed is stretched upon the frame or rack having its edges placed within the substantially U-shaped vertically extending membe-rs 18, and the substantially U-shaped transversely extending members extending around the outside of the frame or rack. A plurality of clips 21 of a substantially U-shaped structure are placed so as to overhang one flange of the substantially U- shaped edge members of the frame or rack,

and these clips 21 are provided with lat-' erally extending tie points 22 which points are adapted to engage the cloth or article contained upon a display frame or rack to firmly hold the cloth in engagement with the rack. Shield members 23 are then placed upon the side edges of the frame so as to firmly clamp the edges of the article con tained upon the display rack or frame in engagement with the frame. The corners of the U-shaped shields which straddle the vertically extending members and horizontally extending members of the frame or rack are held together by means of screws 24L, and it will be seen that as the outer portions 25 of the clips 21 are engaged by the substantially U-shaped shield members the points 22 will be forced in engagement with the fabric or other article to be displayed upon the rack. Furthermore, the ends of the cloth or other article will be firmly clamped so as to be stretched tight upon the frame or display rack.

The display frames are held upon the article supporting frames by means of bolts or screws 26, and these bolts extend through the vertically extending rods 16 and enter the substantially U-shaped shield members 23. The washers 27 are interposed between the display frame and article supporting frame so as to allow the frame to be evenly spaced between the side members of the article supporting frame, and also to facilitate'the removal of the display frame from the article supporting frame.

From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a very efiicient and durable device has been produced for retaining the article to be displayed upon the frame in such a manner as to allow the frame to be folded 2 careful consideration, that by means of the laterally extending feet 2, the main frame will be prevented from toppling over, owing to the fact that the feet 2 are so constructed as to counteract outward swinging movement of the article display frames.

By carefully considering Figs. 6 and 7 it will be seen that the outer portion 25 of the fabric gripping clip is interposed between the outer retaining U-shaped member 23, and the vertically extending U-shaped sides 18, thereby firmly clamping the clip 21 in engagement with the sides 18.

What is claimed is 1. An article display frame comprising a plurality of vertically extending members and a plurality of transversely extending members formed of a substantially U-shaped structure in cross section, fabric gripping clips overhanging said vertically extending members and said horizontally extending members and adapted to grip a. piece of fabric for holding the same in a stretched condition upon said display frame, and substantially U-shaped retaining clips straddling said vertically extending members and said horizontally extending members of said display frame.

2. A display frame of the class described comprising a plurality of vertically extending members and a. plurality of horizontally extending members, of a substantially U- shape in cross section, a plurality of article containing clips carried by said vertically extending members, and said horizontally extending members and being positioned within the U-shaped portions thereof and adapted to engage an article stretched upon said article display frame for holding the ends within said U-shaped members, whereby the article may be stretched in a taut condition upon said frame, and substantially U-shaped retaining members straddling said vertically extending members, and said horizontally extending members of said display frame for firmly retaining an article upon said display frame.

3. A display frame of the class described comprising a plurality of side men'ibers of asubstantially U-shaped structure in cross section, a clip straddling one flange of said U-shaped side members and provided with laterally'extending spurs, said spurs adapted to engage the edges of fabric for holding the fabric in a tight condition upon said frame, and a substantially U shaped retaining member straddling the sides of said frame and engaging one flange of said U- shaped article containing clamp for firmly holding the same in engagement with said frame.
