GEORGE E. DEAN, OF ALBION, MICHIGAN. ASSIGNOR TO THE UNIOII- STEEL SCREEN COMPANY, LTD., OF ALBION, MICHIGAN.
BACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J 1113* 28, 1914.
To (17? 2 3710221 if m [1 concern:
3e it known that I. Gnonoi:
citizen of the United States. residing at Albicn; county of Calhoun. and State of Michiain. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Facts, of which the fol lowing is a specification,
This invention relates to improvements in racks.
My improved rack by me for bakers" use for general use.
The main objects of this invention are, first, to provide an improved rack which is easily kept clean and sanitary. Second, to provide an improved rack which is very light in weight and at the same time strong and durable. Third. to provide an improved 'ack which is very simple and economical in structure.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details. will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification,
The invention is clearly defined and pointis especially designed although it is adapted ed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing. forming .1 part of this specification. in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of my improved rack. Fig. II is an enlargeddetail perspective showing the manner of securing the supporting or shelf arms to the uprights. Fig. III is a detail vertical section taken on a line corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. II. Fig. IV is a detail vertical section taken on a line corresponding to line H of Fig. V of .a modified construction, the modification being in the supporting arms and clamping bolt therefor. Fig. V is a detail vertical -section taken on a line corresponding to line 55 of Fig. IV. Fig. "I is a detail perspective view of a further modification, the modification being in the means for clamping or securing the supporting or shelf arms to the uprights. Fig. VII is a detail horizontal section taken on a line corresponding to line 77 of Fig. VI, the supporting arms being shown in full lines,
In the drawing. similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the 1 several views, and the sectional views are E. DEA), a g taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
eferring to the drawing. the base 1 is preferably an open rectangular frame liaving casters 2 at each corner. The uprights 3 are iounted centrally of the end pieces of the base and supported bv suitable braces l. The uprights are formed of angle iron, preferably channel-shaped in cross section, and arranged in an opposed relation and with the channels facing inwardly. The arms of the channels are provided with a series of notches 5 adapted to receive the shelf or supporting arms 6. These supporting arms are in the preferred construction, formed of rods, the opposed arms being connected by integrally. formed cross pieces 7. The arms are provided with offsets 8 which are arranged between the arms of the angle iron uprights and secured by means of clamping bolts fl. These clamping bolts in the structure shown in Figs. I to III are provided with hooks adapted to engage the offsets as clearly illustrated. This simple securing means secures the supporting arms and prevents their longitudinal movement.
In the modification shown iii Figs. IV and V, the arms 10 are formed separately and provided with hook-likeoffsets 11 at their inner ends. The clamping bolts 12 are provided with washers 13 adapted to engage-these ofisets.
In the modified construction shown in Figs. VI and VII, a clamping bar 14 common to all of the supporting arms is provided. this clamping bar being clamped into the ofisets 15 of the arms 16 by means of bolts 17.
My improved rack can be formed of very light material and atthe same time is strong and durable, and as will be obvious, can be easily kept in a sanitary condition on accountof its simplicity in structure, so. that it is especially adapted for bakers use, also has a large capacity in proportion to its size. v
I have illustrated and described several modifications so that the application of my invention will be fully understood.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a rack, the combination with the base, of channeled uprights arranged oppositely and facing inwardly, the arms of the channels having a series of opposed notches therein, supports comprising rectangular frames of wire arranged between said uprights with their side-members engaging opposed notches thereof, the side members of \said supports having ofi'sets disposed in the channels of the uprights, and hooked bolts passing through said uprights engaging said offsets, all coactin for the purpose specified. 2. Ina rack, t e combination with the base, of channeled uprights arranged oppositely and facing inwardly, the arms of the channels having a series of opposed notches therein, endless wire supports arranged between said uprights with their side members engaging the notches thereof, the side members of said supports having ofi'sets disposed in the channels of the uprights, and means for securing said supports to said uprights engaging said offsets within the channels of said uprights, pose specified.
3. In a rack, the combination with a base, of channeled uprights arranged oppositely and facing inwardly, the arms of said channels having a series of opposed notches therein; rod-like supporting arms arranged in said notches; offsets in said arms disposed in the channels of the uprights; and hookshaped bolts passing through said uprights and engaging the offsets of said supporting arms whereby the arms are immovably seall coacting for the purcured to the upright, all coacting for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE E. DEAN. [L.s.]
