Description

HENRY B. WILLIAMS, orv oHooowINI'rY, NRTH CAROLINA.
WARDRBE FOR 'IBIEDSTEADS.`
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 12, 1909.
Application filed September 15, 1908. Serial No. 453,151.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY B. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chocowinity, in the county of Beaufort and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wardrobes for Bedsteads, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to wardrobes adapted to be positioned beneath a bed,'and the object of the invention is to provide a piece of furniture of this character comprising a skeleton frame whereby the same is rendered extremely light and whereby the same may be constructed at an extremely low cost, the same being provided with a plurality of partitions which may be readily and quickly positioned upon the frame to provide for the reception of drawers of different widths. l
W'ith these and other objects in view, the
invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of a wardrobe constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing the same in position beneath a bed. Fig. 2 is a transverse'sectional view through the wardrobe and taken adjacent one of the partitions. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the partitions. Fig. 4' is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the position ofthe strip 5 carried by the end frames 3.
In the accompanying drawing the numeral l designates the improved wardrobe. This wardrobe comprises a suitable frame constructed of rectangular end members 3 connected at their lower front portions by a suitable strip 2 and at their rear portions with the strips 4. It will be noted by reference to Fig. 2 of the drawing that the strips 2 and 4 are extended at a substantial right. angle to each other and that. the strips 4 are positioned adjacent the top and bottom edges of the rear members of the side frames 3. The side frames 3 are each provided with a transverse strip 5 at their lower inner edges. This strip 5 is arranged in a parallel line with the strip 2 and is adapted to connect with the lower strip 4. The side members 3 are provided with a suitable cover or top 6 of a width equaling the saidV sides. The frame thus constructed may be provided with suitable rollers 7 through the medium of which the device may be readily moved when desired. y
The numeral 8 designates the removable partitions for the frame. These partitions each comprise asubstantially rectangular member of a width equaling the width of the sides 3 and each of these partitions has a substantially V-shaped cut away portion extending from its rear edge which is adapted to serve as a hand hold whereby the partitions may be moved upon the frame to agree with the various sizes or widths of the drawers of the wardrobe. lower ends provided with suitable cleats 10 extending outwardly from each side of the partitions and terminating a distance away from the front edges of the partitions equaling the width of the strip 2. By this arrangement it will be noted that the partitions 8 have their upper edges contacting the under face of the top 6 and their rear faces providedby the out away portion 9 contacting the strips 4 while the lower edge of the forward portion of the partition engages the strip 2 thus allowing the cleats 10 to provide ways for the reception of suitable drawers 11.
'The partitions 8 have their These drawers l1 may be of various sizes and are each provided with suitable 'handles 12 whereby they may be readily withdrawn from the space between the partitions or readily positioned therein as desired.
Vhen it is desired to adjust the partitions 8 upon the frame of the device so as to agree with the width of a certain sized drawer it will be noted that the said partition may be readily slid longitudinally of the frame to assume the proper position therein. Then it is desired to remove one of the partitions, it is simply necessary to remove the drawers 1l and to tilt the said partition so as to disengage the `cleats l0 from the strip 2 whereby the partition may be readily removed through the space provided between the front strip 2 and the top 6 of the frame.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In combination with a frame comprising end members having their lower edges provided with transverse strips and having a horizontal strip connecting their lower edges at their fronts and vertically arranged strips connecting their top and bottom edges at their rear and being provided with a top, of drawers for the spaces between the partitions spaced adjustable and reinovable partitions adapted to rest upon the cleats. 10 frictionally retained Within the frame, said In testimony whereof I :iflix my signature partitions having their lower edges provided in presence of two Witnesses.
i With cleats extending from both sides and HENRY Bi WILLIAMS.
terminating a distance from the front. edge Witnesses: of each of the partitions equaling the Width A. F. GURGoNUs, of the front connecting strip of the ends, and l O. M. VVINFIELD.
