UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS CHEIN, 0F MONTCLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
TOY CANNON.
Application field December 9, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS CHEIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Montclair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cannon, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toy cannon and the object of my invention is to provide a new, useful and instructive toy.
I accomplish this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is'a perspective view of the device with interior parts shown by dotted lines and Fig. 2 is a view of the pneumatic chamber and operating lever.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
My improved device comprises a pneumatic chamber or barrel 1 provided witha piston 2 and piston rod 3. The piston is preferably provided with a surrounding cup or disk 4 of felt or similar compressible material. The base of the pneumatic chamber 1 is provided with a head 5 having a centrally located aperture 6 to receive the piston rod 3. The mouth of the pneumatic chamber 1 preferably has a bent over lip 7 to give strength and finish to the device. The chamber 1 is provided with trunnions 8 journaled in a carriage 9 which is preferably mounted on wheels 10. On the carriage 9 I provide a fulcrum pin 11 which engages one end of Specification of Letters Patent.

the operating lever 12. The lever 12 carries a pin 13 which is seated in the piston rod 3. The projectile 15 is of cork or the like material which may be attached to the device by means of a cable 14. My device being thus assembled the piston 2 is drawn back to its extreme position by means of the lever 12, and the projectile 15 is inserted in the mouth of the chamber 1. The lever 12 is then thrown forward whereby the piston 2 will compress the air in the chamber 1 to a degree sufficient to expel the projectile 15 with a loud report.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A toy implement comprising a wheeled supported carriage having a long end beyond the wheel support to normally maintain the carriage in predetermined relation to the wheels, a barrel fulcrumed in the short end of the carriage beyond the wheels, a piston operative within the barrel, a piston rod projecting beyond the barrel, a lever fulcrumed in the long end of the carriage and connected to the piston rod, the carriage being formed to limit movement of the lever in one direction.
Signed at New York, in the county of New 7 York, and State of New York this 1st day of December A. D. 1914.
JULIUS CHEIN.
