Description
T. ADAMS.
Toy Return-Ball.
No. 216,124. Patented June 3,1879.
[raven Z02.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
THOMAS ADAMS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY RETURN-BALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,124, dated June 3, 1879; application filed March 19, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS ADAMS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Return-Balls; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a perspective View, of the parts separated and exposing the removable core.
In order that others may understand and use my invention, I will first proceed to describe its construction, and subsequently to point out in the claim its novel features.
The device is constructed in hemispherical parts a (t, composed of sheet metal and stamped in suitable dies or otherwise formed, and attached together by closing one part within the other, as shown in Fig. l, forming a circumferential lap-joint. One of said hemispherical parts is perforated at I), through which an elastic cord is passed and secured in the usual LllELllllGl'.
The construction shown and described forms an accessible receptacle in which a removable core, a, is placed, as shown in Fig. 2. This core 0 may be composed of a heavy substance, such as iron or lead, which will improve the action of the ball by giving it an additional impetus.
The construct-ion described also aflords a convenient receptacle for placing and carry ing small articles, such as a boys pet alley or a girls end of chewing-gum or other confection.
The operation of toy return-balls being well known, it is not deemed necessary to describe the same herein, as this invention is but an improvement on such devices already in use.
Having thus fully described my improvement, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hollow metallic toy return-ball, constructed in separable parts and containing a-loose removable core, substantially as described.
THOMAS ADAMS.
Witnesses THos. ADAMS, Jr., J. D. ADAMS.
