-P. s. EDDY & 0.. P. OOGGESHA'LL. Collar and Sleeve Buttons and Studs.
No. 201,600. Patented IVIarch 26,1878.
UNITED STATES. PATENT OFFICE.
PEMBROKE S. EDDY AND OLIVER P. OOGGESHALL, OF PROVIDENCE R. I.
IMPROVEMENT IN COLLAR AND SLEEVE BUTTONS AND STUDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,600, dated March 26, 1878; application filed December 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, PEMBROKE S. EDDY and OLIVER P. COGGESHALL, of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented an Improvement in Collar and Sleeve Buttons and Studs, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of our invention consists in a new and desirable combination for attaching .the upper and lower portions of the button or stud to each other by means of a spring.
Figure 1 is a sectional View, showing the two parts of the button or stud joined together. Fig. 2 is a side View of the two parts separate. Fig. 3 is a side View of the cap, showing the side slot in its post.
In the drawings, A is the base-piece of the button, turned at its edge so as to include the disk B, thus forming the inclosed space 0. The disk B is provided with a circular orifice, D, at its center, around which is soldered the tubular post E. To the cap F is soldered the post G, made of smaller diameter than the interior of the post E, and inclosing the twopronged spring H, spread and curved at its outer end, as shown, in order to enable it to be pressed through the orifice D in the disk B, and, by springing out within the space G, serves to hold the cap F and base Atogether. A slot, I, may be made upon opposite sides of the post G, in order to accommodate the spread of the spring H, as shown in Fig. 3. The disk 13 may be attached to the cap F, if preferred, the spring-post G being in that case attached to the base A.
We claim as our invention The post G and spring H, curved at its outer end, as shown, combined with the tubular post E and disk B, provided with the central orifice D, all arranged and operating substantially as described.
PEMBROKE S. EDDY. OLIVER P. OOGGESHALL. Witnesses:
