Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER A. BEGH, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Knee-Rests, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to provide a yielding support for. the knees; especially adapted to relieve the strain on the knees of those who work in a kneeling position and who must necessarily kneel upon a firm support, such as hard-wood or stone. And to these ends the invention consists of a bearing portion and a yielding support for the knees positioned above the bearing portion and being in spaced relation therewith.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the acconr panying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in its operative position. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device in its folded position.
The knee rest generally designated by a consists of a base plate 5, uprights 6 and 7 and a supporting strap 8. Grooves 9 and 10 are provided on the upper face 11 of the base and serve as sockets for the rounded ends it of the uprights. These rounded ends are provided to facilitate, in conjunction with the grooves, the positioning of the uprights, upon unfolding the device.
Strips 12 and 1 are mounted on the under face of the base plate 5 and are in alinement with the uprights 6 and 7. These strips are by preference, made of rubber, and are provided to decrease the area of contact between the base and the floor, and so prevent defacement of floors, such as polished hardwood. I
The strap 8 may be made of any suitable material such as canvas, and has its ends carried over and fastened to the under side of the base, as shown at 15. The strap is the perpendicular, and the horizontal dis- 7 tance between the upper ends of the uprights will be less than that between the lower ends. This movement is permitted by means of the uprights being mounted in the grooves 9 and 10 so that they are free to turn. As this movement occurs the parts 18 of the strap will be tautened and upon the weight being released from the strap the tendency of the parts 18 will be to return to dthzeir normal positions the uprights 6 all. What is claimed as new is:
1. A kneeling rest comprising a base, a pliable strap, connected at its ends with the ends of the base and being longer than the base, and relatively rigid uprights attached to the strap at points between the ends thereof and adapted to be interposed on edge between the base and the strap to hold the intermediate portion of the strap spaced from the intermediate portion of the base.
2. A kneeling rest comprising a base provided at one side with grooves, a pliable strap connected at its ends with the ends of the base and being longer than the base, transversely disposed strips located at the other side of the base and opposite the grooves, and relatively rigid uprights attached to the strap at points between the ends thereof and adapted to be interposed on edge in said grooves and between the base and the strap to hold the intermediate portion of the strap spaced from the intermediate portion of the base.
